Looking Up

And when it rains on your parade, look up rather than down. Without the rain, there would be no rainbow.                                                                                                       ~ G. K. Chesterton

A few looking up shots from our trip to Clear Lake. There's always something to see when we stop and look up... the wide open sky, fluffy clouds, the sun, the moon, even a funky birdhouse or 2.... it rarely disappoints. Life's good that way.

Today, stop...pause...and look-up. Elevate your everyday with us. Be sure to tag your photos with #sselevate. Thanks for playing along!

When I read the prompt for today was curves...I immediately thought of my cup collection.....It's the unique curves of each cup that I love most. This cup..... is my fav of all... the curve of the handle...so completely unique...the curvy body .... just right... really truly, for me it's perfect.

We are ready to elevate the everyday this month! Show us your curvy images and add them to the One Word Project pool on Flickr. And be sure to tag your images this month with #sselevate.

a shimmer of silver

This past weekend, Bryce's girlfriend graduated. She looked so beautiful. Every little detail just right. Silver shimmering in her hair, lovely silver and jewel accessories and the prettiest sequins on her dress. Perfectly perfect.

I adore silver. I'm always thrilled when I find a new silver ring or an inspiring silver charm. Love so much.

How 'bout you? Share your silver sprinkled photos in the OWP Flickr group, tag them with #sscolormonth and you will be entered to win a beautiful Epiphanie camera bag at the end of this month.

Yellow Orange & a Story

Yellow orange! Oh my, I have to say this color stumped me a little. Do you ever set out to do something and find yourself over complicating it? That's what I did with this colour challenge. I'm still not sure I've captured yellow orange. But, I can't wait to see your take on it!

I took this photo on our front porch. Take a peek at the brick wall...notice the off-brick pattern on the right side. (trust me it's much worse in person, the camera blur helps) Anyhow, there's a story behind that sad wall. I just have to share it with you.

Several years ago we did a major exterior makeover to our old home. The plan was to pretty much replace everything but the brick. The brick was perfect in a 110 year old kind of way! Perfect, that is.....until the day John and Brett removed the front porch floor so they could rebuild it.

Imagine this with me. They are ripping and tearing the boards out and it's going well. I was in the house doing what I do. I decided to check on their progress. I opened the front door at the very moment the board that was apparently bracing the brick was yanked off the wall. Right before my eyes the bricks started to fall. I gasped in horror, John stood there dumb-founded and said I sure didn't see that coming, Kimmy. I'd love to say I laughed about it. But honestly there were tears....big sucky tears. 'sigh'. John reassured me he could put the brick back up. A few days passed by. I couldn't bare to look at it. Honestly I was a total brat about it!

A couple of how to books and a few DIY shows later the masonry project began. I don't think I have to tell you how it went.... You can pretty much see the results. Let's just say it's a lot harder than it looks and masonry is an art my boys have yet to master!

Up until this summer, we had an old cast iron stove in front of the 'oops wall'. It took years for me to be okay with looking at it. I still cringe a little. But what I see now.... more than the poor old messed up wall, is the look of horror on Brett's face, the i didn't see that coming from John, the tears and laughter of the day they tried to 'fix' it. 'sigh'....

Time heals... And even sad memories can have some happiness tucked inside. Life's good that way.

Okay my friends, let's see your yellow orange goodness today. All this color is AMAZING. Bravo!
