amazing grace

image bycitrushearts

Focusing on gratitude is an amazing practice. Its one of only a few states of mind that can truly shed light into the dark places.

I would venture to guess that almost everyone reading this post would put photography on their list of what they are grateful for in their lives. Not to be over-dramatic but I honestly do not know what or who I would be without it. For me it began as a hobby, turned into a career and has ended up being a part of me that sometimes feels as important as air.

So, I ask you today, what exactly is it about photography that you're most grateful for? How has it shed light in your dark places?

Have you started your Memolio Gratitude Photo Album? If not, today's a great day to start! Memolio is giving away 5 free books to 5 lucky readers. Anyone who comments on this post between now and midnight tonight will be entered into the random drawing. More things to be grateful for!

My father was a professional photographer who died when I was 3. My grandparents were gone by the time I was 5. I learned everything I know about my dad and grands from the wonderful photographs my dad took. Photos have kept me connected to people from the very beginning and make all my moments matter.

I'm grateful for the creative outlet that photography has afforded me. I'm grateful for the many new friends I've never met that share the same love of photography that I have. I'm grateful for photography because it has opened my eyes to things I would never have noticed before - there is beauty in everything.

For me, photography is a way of coming back to myself & reinventing myself, at the same time. I've always loved photography and I enjoyed the classes I took as part of the visual arts curriculum in college. I dabbled and decided i wasn't going to be good enough at it to make it my life's work. So I became a designer, which I love. But it's my work.

As I get older, I'm getting to know myself better. I'm coming back to the things that bring me joy and comfort. I was surprised how much I missed photography, and by how inspired I am by the everyday things I would have missed if I weren't looking with a lens... And I'm glad I didn't make it my life's work back then because I see things differently now. My photography is something I do for myself. And I love that I'm creating happiness for others with the images I capture.

My interest in photography started back when I was fourteen, but the past year and a half have been like an awakening for me. Talk about seeing things differently! I've learned so much(yet have so much more to learn). What a confidence boost it's been to have someone say, hey, that's a great shot! It's been incredible to have a creative outlet for this stay at home (schooling) mom, always giving- like most mom's- finally having time for something for me.
Also grateful for a flickr friend who invited me to join a 30 days of gratitude group - pretty hard to complain when you're too busy counting your blessings :)

I am grateful for simple things today...like a rain free walk on the moor with my husband.

I love that photography is a way to capture time and a cherished memory, and I also love the fact that it has unleashed a surge of creativity in me that I honestly never knew was there. I am so excited.

I'm grateful to have found photography which enables me express where words end. I aspire to have all my photographs be full of gratitude, no matter if the subject is dark, complex, beautiful or zen.

i love photography because it's capturing a moment, creating art, and interpreting a scene rather than just representing it.

Thankful that with photography, I can take my camera anywhere I go and always find something interesting to shoot or see something intriguing in an ordinary day.

Photography helps me see the beauty that God's grace grants us everyday. I think if it were not for photography I might not slow down long enough to See. For this peace I'm very grateful.

I used to be a dancer and after that career ended I felt lost and kept hoping and praying for a new passion. Photography gives me that same type of creative outlet and expression without the physical limitations that go along with aging. I'm grateful to be able to do something creative every day, even if I only have a minute. The possibilities seem endless. I love it so much. And of course I'm so grateful for the community and inspiration I find here at Shutter Sisters!

I am grateful that I picked up my camera at a time I needed it most. It has changed how I view life, people, my surroundings and how I view myself in the most postive way. I am grateful for a husband who has supported me through this journey and encouraged me to pursue this dream to make it a career and to make a vision, my vision.

I am so very grateful for my beautiful daughters and the beautiful granchildren they have given me. For the beauty and love they show me every day! I am grateful for every day! Every time the sun rises and sets. I am grateful for the shine of the glorious moon and the ocean tides. Every flower and bird and mountain sky! Majestic horses and my loyal dog.
God has created an astoundingly beautiful planet for us and I am so very grateful that He has given me the gift of seeing and capturing the extraordinary beauty of His Creation through the lens of my Camera.

I Love this beautiful image of Amazing Grace, Thank you for sharing!

i loved the post i read the other day about being grateful for the yucky things, too -- i needed that reminder...

even though i dislike the expression, "it's all good," maybe it really is?

I am thankful for how it makes me wait...for the right moment. How it lets me grab the visual proof of the parts of my loved ones spirits that I want to remember forever... and just how wonderful i feel when i'm doing it. When i'm taking photos is when i feel the least self conscious.

Photography has given me a much needed creative outlet. I have been lost intellectually for the past few years since college, searching for a place to challenge and express myself. I no longer feel restrained, inhibited or quiet.
