fashion+function=a new camera bag

*EPIPHANIE CAMERA BAGS FOR WOMEN*

I've been working for almost two years on a line of camera bags for women. The idea first came to me when I found myself constantly wrapping up my $2000 camera (not to mention the $1700 lens) in a hand towel, and throwing it into my purse. Because who wants to carry an ugly old camera bag IN ADDITION to your regular one?! I started talking to other photographer friends. And they all had their own stories about what they used to wrap up their cameras: sweatshirts, pot holders, wash cloths, bubble wrap. I realized there was definitely a need in the market place for a camera bag that was as FASHIONABLE as it was FUNCTIONAL. So I embarked on the VERY LONG, SOMETIMES FRUSTRATING, BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT journey of MANUFACTURING my own camera bags.

Pictured here, are three of the five different styles. On the interior, they all have velcro-removable panels so that you can arrange each compartment to fit your specific bodies and lenses. It can be a straight-up camera bag. OR, it can be just a purse with a compartment for a camera. This makes it perfect for PROFESSIONALS and/or SCRAPBOOKERS. Not to mention just GIRLS WITH NICE CAMERAS. It's really that flexible!

So we're aiming to have the website done in about a month, which is when I'll post details and measurements and all that jazz. But for now, if you'd like to be on the FIRST TO KNOW list

SPECIAL TREATS AND DISCOUNTS WILL APPLY. And THANK YOU. Because if I'm honest, I kind of feel like I'm wearing my heart on my sleeve today. I've held this project so closely for the longest time. And now it's out there for everyone to see. Please be nice.   :)

And we'd love to hear your stories today about the craziest thing you've ever used to wrap up your camera?

***UPDATE*** (12-26-2010)

We've been in business for over a year now. Please visit us at EPIPHANIE BAGS.

my bag functions as my purse, camera, and diaper bag. my camera is often wrapped in cloth diapers!
i am always on the lookout for a bag that can accommodate all these things plus some and not be too bulky (and also be somewhat stylish). can't wait to see the entire line!

Definitely a needed product. I tried the "bowler bag" by Acme, but it didn't fit my Canon 30D, so it went right back to Adorama. Since then, I've used my regular backpack camera case or *gasp* taken my chances with it in my purse.

Those bags look great! I am a new photographer and got a very ugly camera bag with my camera, and I HATE that bag so I usually throw the camera in my purse and wrap the extra lens in the paper it came in and pad it with my daughter's diapers (with maxi pads in the side pockets -- I think the term used in a comment above is "classy"). Can you put some slots for memory cards in the bag too? And a business card holder slot too?

Yep. I am guilty of the towel/tshirt wrap method...and sweating it out hoping my equipment doesn't get smashed in transport. I'm tired of lugging my big black lumpy photo backpack AND my regular purse. I am looking forward to experiencing fashion and function! Kudos for stepping up and meeting the needs of us female photogs!

Great idea! Wish I'd thought of it.

I just went out hunting for a new camera bag this past weekend. I came home disappointed...and with a yucky, boring, black bag. I'd outgrown my other bag...so I was out of options. I can't wait to sport one of these snazzy bags! Soooo much better than any of the other options out there! So excited. Thank you for coming up with a fabulous solution for all of the trendy female photogs out there. I can't wait!

OMG - I want one! Now, how long will I have to wait?

I was amused by this post. Because, just this weekend as I was attending a wedding in Yosemite I had by camera safely wrapped up in a diaper in my son's diaper bag (a clean one of course). I walked around with a smile on my face, but inside I was wishing I had the real thing! Looking forward to checking these bags out.

I once used my daughter's (clean) disposable diaper to wrap my camera!

Thank you! I've been wanting a bag that I can use as a purse, but will still keep my camera safe. I've been putting my wallet in my camera bag. My husband is nice enough to carry my camera bag while I'm out shooting.

Oh my gosh, they look gorgeous! I'm so excited to see the website. Congrats on this big accomplishment!

I was with a friend in a very crowded place when I took my camera out of it's bag and unwrapped it. I quickly started shooting smething when suddenly my friend looked at me, started laughing and very loudly said "Kelly-- what on earth are you doing with your panties?!?" Needless to say, I was pretty embarrased, but several months before when unable to find my lens cloth, these satiny panties seemed to be the next best thing!

I've heard of your site on lots of other blogs so I thought I'd check it out. Just recently got a household camera. Nikon d60. and since getting it, I'm obsessed. Can't stop taking pictures. So I've basically claimed the cam as my own. YESS!! Can't wait to see your line of bags. I've been thinking of how to carry around my cam, espcially since I've always been a smaller shoulder bag kind of girl. I'm defintely not going to carry around the big "real" camera bag. Plus, like I saw elsewhere, it's like carrying around a bag with a sign that says "Hey, I've got lots of expensive camera equipment here."

I would by one today with a cross body strap!

Its about time! The old diaper bag (it has lots of compartments) I use is looking a little silly since my youngest is almost 5! Thanks for working so hard to give us "girly girls" something to be proud to carry! Love them!

I have been waiting for fashionable leather look camera bags for so long!

I just can't wait another day! When do we get more news?
October 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKelly
OMG! I am in LOVE!!! I have wrapped my camera in SO many things! Lap blankets, dog sweaters, diapers (clean, of course! LOL), pajama pants, etc. . . . I have CRPS in both arms and it is difficult to carry ONE bag, let alone two! These are insanely gorgeous! Definitely on my list - and also perfect Christmas present for my sister because if I don't just go ahead and get her one, I'll never see mine again!

I am dying to find out about these camera bags. When will there be more news? Soon I hope. Signed up for your email back in the beginning of October. Just hoping they are available before Christmas. I agree that these would make a wonderful gift!
November 19, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAngela Williams
Any idea when they'll be available? They would make the perfect holidy gift for a photogrpahy lover!

The original post said it would be a month until these bags would be up on the web site and that was in September of 2009. Am I not looking in the right place for them b/c it is January 2010 and I still don't see them. I need a bag so badly for my trip to China nice month! I want it to be cute and stylish so that I can carry it as a purse/camera bag. If these bags aren't coming out before then, any suggestions? These are the cutest I have seen.

Will you have your bags at the WPPI Trade Show? I'd LOVE to see them in person!

Ditto, ditto, ditto. Never carry a purse in my hand - usually throw my camera in my messenger bag across my shoulder along with wallet, phone, emergency pants and unders (for the kid) and god all knows what else. LOVE this idea.

amazing! just got a d300s and bought a camera backpack because we travel and explore a lot but that totally doesn't work if i'm going to the opera or a fancy restaurant! So excited to get one!

So, it's almost a year later... Are the bags on the market yet?
July 27, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMe
ohhh I'm so excited, I'm going to "need" one when they are available. I've carried my camera in my purse wrapped in a scarf, towel or whatever else is handy. I've even put it in the hatchback of my car in a plastic milk crate wrapped in towels. Sad, so Sad... x amount of dollars invested in photography equipment and I throw it in a milk crate.

I just came across this site whilst googling for funky camera/lens bag and now I'm hooked! LOVE the site, LOVE the reason for the site, love it all round!
September 18, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCherrie
Sweet! I just end up not even carrying my camera and then I lose out on so many photo opportunities. I am so glad that someone is creating a bag like this!
September 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterApril
Craziest thing I've ever used to pad my camera would be diapers and a changing mat. I tried to condense my purse, camera bag, and diaper bag all into one for a trip to Disney. It was awful, I almost dropped the camera body while digging for a pacifier.

Love it! Love it! Love it!
