daring

Sometimes you have to take risks, be bold, do daring. Because...because...it challenges you. It surprises and delights you. It makes you feel alive. Isn't that reason enough?

When you find yourself in a mode of doing all the right things, all the things you are supposed to be doing to go with the status quo, try taking a chance or two. Attempt to push the boundaries. Be assertive. Audacious. Over the top. Express yourself! What have you got to lose? A little excitement never hurt anyone.

In the name of all things bold and beautiful, we are thrilled to be featuring the splashy camera strap covers by Swanky Stitch. And because they know that making a statement is all part of what makes life interesting, they are going to be giving away 3 Swanky Stitch camera straps to 3 lucky shutter sisters. All you have to do is be bold enough to comment here between now and Sunday at midnight EST for your chance to be in the random drawing to win one.

Today, let's celebrate the wow factor! Reveal your daring! Show us what you've got in the name of expressing your wild side!

_____

Congrats to Angie Willis, Stephanie and Diane Schuller for winning Swanky Stich camera staps!

Thank you for the chance of winning such a unique camera strap!!! They're fabulous! I have attached a photo, it's not the greatest photo but taking this shot took me way out of my comfort zone because I find it so uncomfortable taking photos of people when they don't know it. I took this one... and so happy I did. In Verona Italy on my honeymoon and I saw these ladies together, they were talking and laughing and watching young kids across the street. I couldn't look away. I'm happy I took this picture because if I didn't, there's a chance I'd forget about this great moment.

Thanks again!

Double birthday celebration. Fifteen fabulous mama's in their LBD's. Strutting our stuff and singing along to every song at the musical "Mamma Mia." Back at the hotel (yes, we took a whole night to get away and have fun!) we howled with laughter at our gift of a bottle of "Bubbly Bitch". A photo op was suggested. This is daring for Ms. Follow The Rules and Do Not Color Outside The Box me. We sent this sassy pic off to our husbands, who were at home with our children. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jenerickson/5022948879/

I am terrified of spiders. I HAD to have a picture of this crazy looking thing, but the whole time I was sooo nervous that it was going to jump onto me and attack me! And when I was taking the photo I was actually thinking to myself...wow this is when I know I really love photography, coming that close to that scary of a spider!

Oh! Even as an aging photographer, I try to be fashionable when I shoot. One of those gorgeous straps would be so admired by my fellow photo friends.

I knew I was being a bit daring and breaking the rules with some of the images I posted today over at my place ... too much sky, rule of thirds, but I didn't care ... a sky like the one I saw in Paris yesterday should be see in as grand a way as possible and bigger worked better for me.

My wild side would involve giving someone else the camera and letting them take the shots. I still need to do that...

My bold choice for hair accessory at a recent wedding i attended. I think my Spirit longs for another era... fashion-wise anyway. :-)

Me, I'm quite shy about other people observing me when I shoot... So now that I have a phone with a proper camera, I've become more bold about where I shoot, like this one from a flower store, a shot I would never have had courage enough to take with my SLR:

Hmmm... I don't know if this counts as me being daring, but I do buy my 13yo daugher bleach & brightly colored hair dye!! I tried dying some of my own hair an impossible red at the same time, but it just didn't look right on me, so I'm living vicariously through her: http://www.flickr.com/photos/superdewa/4962394479/ I think I need one of those camera straps to compensate :-)

I don't know that I ever do anything *bold.* It's just not my thing. But I do like to try new things with my photography, whether it's new processing styles or new techniques such as freelensing: http://www.flickr.com/photos/15772313@N07/4977926807/

It's fun to step out of the box and do something new. :)

Great straps! I am loving devouring "Expressive Photography" - it's inspired me to take some out of my comfort zones in the past few days! Amazing how asking someone if you may take their photo brings a whole new situation. Usually I am sneaky about it.

Shooting adults is definitely daring for me. Especially tremendously good looking modelish adults. This is something I submitted to try to get the job for a couple of catalogs. It has netted me one so far, and results are pending on the other. It has taught me that it doesn't matter how long you have been doing something -- being fearless is how you improve and test your limits. All the things I love most in my life are things that scared me at first.
