Fridays Featured Resource - Photoinduced takes lunch

I met the amazing Damon at an event sometime ago and was immediately impressed with his jovial spirit and his larger than life personality. It didn't hurt of course that he was so supportive of what we were doing over here at Shutter Sisters. A guy after my own heart. On top of all that, he's a fantastic photographer and the man behind Photoinduced, a great photography resource site. Tech stuff, events, contests, interviews, photo gear, expo coverage, videos, you name it, Photoinduced covers it.

Oh, and then there's the yummy contest he's are hosting over there right now. Let's do Lunchis a cleverly themed contest (love this idea) which has a charity driven focus. In other words, you enter your images of you 'doing lunch' (I told you it was clever) so you can be entered to win some pretty awesome prizes and a percentage of your entry fee goes to local food banks. With a great way to give back and a creative contest to shoot for, I told you Photoinduced is cooking up some cool stuff over there.

Today, show us how you do lunch.  And be sure to enter the contest and show 'em how us Sisters do it!

An Illuminating October

Yep. The word for the October One Word Project is illuminate. Isn't that a great word? For me it conjures up beauty, light, hope, inspiration and so much more.

So how did we come up with illuminate? Truth be told, we are so utterly smitten by our One Word Project partners Kirtsy that they were the inspiration for the word.

I mean, did you know that the fine editors at Kirtsy shed light on all things bright and beautiful on the web for women every day, all day? It's true. If you know Kirtsy then you already know what we're taking about but if you don't, just go check out the site! You'll never want to leave.

And did you know that they are hosting 100 FREE small business/social media classes around the country in the next few months to enlighten women just like us? I will be teaching a few in So Cal if you'd care to attend! I'd love that!

And last but not least did you know they've got a Kirtsy book coming out (Kirtsy Takes a Bow: A Celebration of Women's Online Favorites that will not only be adorned with a number of images from the Shutter Sisters but will also be featuring almost a hundred other women of the web?

I know! Now it makes sense right? Illuminate is the perfect word!

Plus we love jack-o-lantern season.

So, sisters, show us that lovely light, that inspiration, that glow that only you all can capture and add your photos to our OWP Flickr pool. Check back daily for the featured photo...it just could be you.

Shine on!

On the Table

One of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta is a hip vegetarian eatery known as Dynamic Dish. My friend James introduced me to the owner and chef, David Sweeney, and this lead to a collection of lunches that nourished me with a hearty dose of fine food and visual delight. Looking through this set of images from my dining experience at the Dish makes me think that I should take the time to discover and document a handful of super cool hidden spaces where tables are full of delightful objects and thoughtful conversations. It seems most days at noon, I am too often tethered to my desk with an English Muffin on a plastic plate.

Show us what's on your table today or share the details of an interesting restaurant or kitchen space.

you could get the same from steel-cut oats, but steel cut oats are not as much fun, and also not remotely frothy.

It feels like it's been ages since I've hung out here. Jen and Stephanie have brought home a wealth of stories from Africa, and meanwhile, I overslept and the dog ate my homework. Which is utterly transparent code for I blanked last week, completely (or was it the week before?) to the point where it didn't even occur to me until Thursday or somesuch, and adventures save the day.

I've been posting here at Shutter Sisters since the beginning, starting out with my point-and-shoot in hand. This circle is well-worn denim, a retreat that just fits. I love it here and yet I fear, always, that I don't have much to add other than OMG CUTE. OMG, LIKE, LOOK. A BOOGER.

I could write about lens angst. About how I branched out from my ever-present nifty-fifty for a 10-20mm wide angle, which I'm now wishing I could trade in for a fixed 35mm, or a macro, or really, anything else. Or I could write about how the light has changed, perhaps the day after I took these photos. A pelting rain, then frost and summer is gone, instantly--and how that changes the tone of photography, winter's scent in the air.

But it's late and all I have for you is OMG CUTE. OMG LIKE, LOOK. Well, maybe a bit more than that.

Today, show us photos that capture one thing -- not just for kids, but any prop, a piece of clothing, an accessory -- that draws your camera. That thing that makes you think, whenever it crosses your frame of view: one of these days, I've got to capture that. Because it makes me happy.

Superhero Photo Challenge: Dreamy interiors

I am manifesting a home. A dreamy house right here in my neighborhood... I have a detailed list of all the things our ideal place would have, and gorgeous light is one of them.

This shot was taken at our friend's cabin in Mendocino, California. It is rustic and way too cold in the winter, but it has the quirky charm I long for. The light is exquisite inside and the old details with the peely paint are so lovely.

This week's challenge is to show us your dreamy interior, or perhaps its an image of someone else's you can link to. My personal favorite is Kelly Rae's home tour of her place in Seattle.
