superhero photo challenge: counter this

Sometimes you have to go across the street or around the world to find that perfect shot, but most of the time the picture you've been waiting for is right under your nose.  What happens when you confine your eye to what's closest to you?  Can you find the shot?  This week we're going to find out.

For this week's Superhero Photo Challenge, go to your kitchen counter and capture that glimpse of ordinary magic you might have overlooked otherwise.   Share your photos and links here in the comments below.

I love this challenge. Who would have thought a drainboard could be beautiful! I'm going to wait until later when the sun is shining in my kitchen.

Yes, there is definitely beauty to be found in the mundane. I actually posted this:

before I read about your challenge.

Here's a pic of the "crazy chicken thingie" that sits on my counter. It was one of those gifts that you weren't sure if it's a gag when you open it (it wasn't).

It's always great to be reminded to look at the beauty that we have.

Here's mine -- good thing there's no picture of my sink right now :)

I would take a photo of my counter as it stands right now, but OMG. It would scare ya'll. After-dinner disaster.

Today's lunch. Artichoke angel hair pasta.

I live in a small apt and enjoy clean countertops. When I moved in I was disapointed to find that the bottles didn't fit in my spice cabinet where I prefer them. After many months on the counter, I believe I would miss them if they weren't there. :)

such coincidence, earliery today I shot a few petals that had fallen inside my kitchen sink (but they're still in my camera!!) so until I get them downloaded, her is something that I shot much earlier sitting on the counter, catching the light.

Okay my shutter sister darlings, I'm back. As I said, I had taken this earlier in the day not knowing but somehow with a prescience about the challenge! ... this is the single shot I took in my kitchen earlier today:

What fun! I was so excited to play along, that I shot this at 10 o'clock at night (not optimal lighting conditions!).

I'm constantly taking photographs in my kitchen; it's where I spend most of my time. If I moved my computer onto the counter in there, I would probably never leave.

Some beauty I found this morning: http://nittanymommy.blogspot.com/2008/10/shutter-sisters-challenge-counter-this.html I might have to replace these with better ones this evening, when the sun actually shines directly onto my counter. But I'm too impatient to wait for that.

Hi,
This is my first time responding to a Shutter Sisters challenge. I love taking pictures of everyday things in my home; here are a few things I found on my counter ...

Funny, when I started clicking I realized the story my kitchen told about me. Texan, eclectic, random, romantic, comfortable. At least, thats the story I hope every one else sess as well!

Sunday morning. Washing dishes. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the prism catching the sunlight in the kitchen window. Technically this isn't a shot of something on my kitchen counter but I was standing at the kitchen counter when I caught a "glimpse of ordinary magic" and attempted to capture it.

It is true, I had forgotten that I purchased this little giraffe for his broken ear, for one franc. i always see him, but i forget to notice how he is a symbol of my creativity, even in our cramped space...

Never did a draining board look so exquisite. Your work is exceptional. I would love to participate in some of the challenges in the future. I'm just now getting to know my DSLR and have joined a photography club. I'll be visiting, and will jump on the bandwagon when I've conjured up the courage!
