Love Thursday: May 8, 2008

600_050808.jpg

When we bought our home a year ago, one of the characteristics we loved was the mature landscaping around the house -- not because we're such amazing gardeners, you understand, but quite the opposite: we figured that the longer the plant had actually lived, the less likely we were to kill it.  Sad, but true:  I know nothing about plants.

Anyway, spring has sprung, so yesterday I grabbed my camera and my 60mm AF Micro Nikkor lens, to see what I could find.  The garden didn't disappoint:  there were lots of buds and slowly unfurling flowers.  But I found the blossom above particularly striking:  because of Love Thursday I find myself intrigued by hearts that occur in nature, and to me this flower looked like it had three tiny hearts, each surrounded by a golden halo.  So I took the shot.

Besides, I loved the teensy little grasshopper on the petal.

Happy Love Thursday, all.  Please leave your links of love in the comments below, and for inspiration, check out the really cool hearts-in-nature captured by work2snap and cherryvanillastudios and shared in the Shutter Sisters Flickr Pool.

And may you see symbols of love all around you today.

Indeed, love is everywhere. And I can't get enough of the hearts! Especially when they are as sweet as this-

So lovely! I never seem to find or photograph those naturally occurring hearts - I need to remember to see them...!

I took this picture today, envisioning making some sort of a series of self photos - to remind myself of myself. It's a bit selfish of a motive for love Thursday, but it got me out of sweats and a baggy tee shirt and made me remember my shape and my skin ... which may more in line with Love Thursday than expected...

I am totally jonesing for that very same lens, Karen. The cost is a bit prohibitive at the moment, but I will have one!

How lucky to inherit a garden with heart no less :)

This week I'm loving my dog Stella, who never wants me to have a cold bum, apparently:

We're moving into a new house tomorrow. It's hard to leave the old one behind, but I know that it is a house that is full of love.

Thanks for the link, Karen!

I know I already posted this in the pool this week, but it's the only heart I've found this week. Happy Love Thursday!

Here's a photo I took of my son last Sunday at the playground. I had no idea what was hovering overhead until I began viewing the photos on my computer. I love this shot of him...my new favorite. Surprising hearts-in-nature!

(I still have "setting up flicker account" on my to do list!)

Lots of love in this one: a budding love of capturing images, my love seeing him wanting to do what I do, and much more for me personally.

The flower is just beautiful! We are still in "beige" country mode here in Northern Nevada. Our little valley is in a high elevation so nothing really begins to even bloom until mid to late May. I can't wait to finally be able to find some hearts in nature.

Til then here are some of my favorite subjects to photograph:
