Love Thursday: June 12, 2008

061208_600.jpg

The other day, as I was thinking about what would make a good Love Thursday post, it dawned on me:  I've spoken about parental love, and romantic love; I've written about finding hearts in nature and finding hearts in homes -- but one subject I don't think I've ever written about is friendship.  And this seemed like a glaring omission on my part.

As a child, my family moved around a lot:  my father worked in the energy industry, and about every two years or so, his employer required us to picked up sticks and moved to another home so that my father could take on a different role within the  company.  While I certainly love that my sister and I had the opportunity to experience new places and people, there's a part of me that wishes that I had stayed somewhere long enough to develop some lifelong friendships.

Luckily, as an adult, I've lived in one city long enough to make two very close friends -- people who I consider immediate family.  The first, my friend Mark, is my closest male friend, a true confidant, and my daughter's godfather.  He lives in England now, so I don't see him as often as I'd like; distance notwithstanding, however, we remain close.

The second is my friend Trish, who is my closest girlfriend.  Trish and I have been friends for over a decade, and her kids are close in age to my daughter's.  When our families get together, it feels like brothers, sisters, cousins ... family.   The shot above is of my daughter and hers, and if this image is any indication, it appears they're at the beginning of a lifelong friendship of their own.

Happy Love Thursday, everyone.  Please leave links to your images of love in the comments below, and be sure to check out the photographs left by Boho Photography and MaryCalissa in our Flickr pool for inspiration.

And may you embrace a true friend today.

I probably posted this before somewhere along the line but I just have to post it again because it fits so nicely with today's theme... friendship. It's a thing of beauty.

That is a beautiful shot of your daughter and her friend. Just beautiful.

My Love Thursday contribution is a photo I took of my daughter today. A day in which she is happy, wonderful, and well, after 8 days with pneumonia. Fevers of 104, constant vomiting, a trip to the er....I saw this photo, and felt myself exhale....

I love your photo. I mourn the loss of old friendships...time and distance has had its negative affects. I haven't been able to find a true friend in a long time, and being a stay-at-home mom makes it hard to find them. I'm thankful for my online community even with its limitations.

That's a great picture. I'm afraid I didn't do as good a job at capturing a friend moment, but that's what my post is about, too. Giving your child life-long friends is a worthy endeavor.http://graymattersonline.net/2008/06/12/love-thursday-31/

I took your advice and looked for random shots of love...

And for the record - I *love* friendship love. I think it is one of the best!
A kiss between brothers is much more pleasant since the toddler learned to close his mouth (and stop drooling.)

Happy Love Thursday everyone. This is from a blog post that I did last week for my best friend's birthday.

My picture pales in comparison to the amazing shot you captured but I still love it for it's own merit. Childhood friendship is the most loyal yet fickle bond there is.

I moved every two years also when I was growing up.

thank you for speaking of this-developing close girl friends was always something I longed for. Fortunately, I am slowly unfolding in that area of my life.

For Love Thursday here are my parents. They've remained friends throughout the years (and throughout many hardships) and I've learnt a lot about how to love and how to be a friend through them. I'm a very lucky girl when it comes to my mum and dad.

One of these days I hope to take a photo that really celebrates them. I never feel like I quite capture how great they are.

And a couple more, before I forget ...

Here is my sister and her husband (they married about this time last year). They met when a mutual friend set them up via surfing lessons:

Then there's my brother and his girlfriend. She's from Germany, but fell for my brother (God help her!) and has made a life with him here in Aus:

I've always been amazed at the power of just one good friend. I feel blessed with many friendships at this age in the game (34), but some hard times have been softened with the presence of just one friend. thanks for the time to reflect & be grateful.

my love thursday photo today is a picture of me and my friends (and also officemates) in Hundred Islands, Philippines. This trip is very close to my heart because it was the last time I went on an out-of-town trip with them, as employees of the same company. I resigned from work two months ago to pursue my first love, teaching. But even if we all go on our separate ways, I know that the friendship will stay. Happy Love Thursday everyone! :)
