Iconic Summer

062808_600.jpg
We just got back from a week of traveling across the midwest to visit with our closest friends and family. Our trip included every favorite summer activity imaginable including camping, barbecuing, playing baseball, going to the beach, dining al fresco and spending time with friends. One of our stops along the way was a two day camping trip with our good friends and their two daughters. We spent our days chatting by the fire, throwing a Frisbee, and completely relaxing. There's nothing like watching two little girls experiencing summer at it's finest, unknowingly living the memories that they will look back on fondly. I've never seen pure and utter bliss like I did when the girls bit into those s'mores. I grabbed my camera and as I clicked away they didn't even know I was there. It's like they were in a s'more trance. To me, the image above represents summer.

Which photo represents your idea of the perfect summer?

Ah... camping and s'mores! I'm looking forward to spending more time outdoors with my family!

I think a juicy, red watermelon is a good sign of summer! Slurp!

I have two photos that mean summer to me. Not surprisingly they both revolve around food.

Strawberries:http://flickr.com/photos/7914841@N08/2251898686/

And roasted marshmallows:http://flickr.com/photos/7914841@N08/2617834998/

We just got back from vacation too where we collected shells on the beach:

And my son's favorite activity was swinging on the swings every night. The park was just down the road from our condo:

this is my favorite summer photo so far this year:

But i always know summer is back in full swing when my son "the river dolphin" is doing water tricks and moving in for his dolphin snacks again. =)

Thanks for all the photos. I LOVE the fly fishing and the black and white hands full of ripe red strawberries! Mmmm. making me think breakfast. =)

Summer would not be complete without cracking into one of these beauties, spitting out black seeds-sweet sticky juice running down your hands and face..

My idea of a perfect summer is going on more road trips than I can keep up with! S'mores and camping are definitely a part of that :)

oh, that's so hard. Summer is so many things! It could be a shot of my garden, the kiddos at the beach, camping with my family... But for this week it's strawberries. We picked 50 lbs in 2 days and here are a couple photos. Part of my perfectly summery week:

i took this during my summer vacation to visit my best friend and her family on their farm. your picture reminded me of this moment, and spending a week with this little friend was certainly the highlight of my summer.

texas is hip deep in 100 degree days but thanks to my sweet husband putting up a shade on our back porch, I can still sit outside with a cool drink at my elbow and listen to our water feature bubble way and read:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dandelionseeds/2601175245/

nothing sounds better than a texas evening, with the sky deepening and the crickets singing and the deep, dark smell of the magnolias:

and of course a lazy summer day is not complete without a belly rub or two:

oh s'mores! i still remember the first time i had them at girl scout camp as a kid. what a great memory.

as for summer, here in texas the only way to cool off is by getting in the kayak and paddling down the river. i think a texas summer is the equivalent to a maine winter, we mostly stay indoors to survive and if we venture out it's towards a body of water.

here's my son in his element

Your smore photo reminded me of a campfire on the Maine coast 3 summers ago (I can't believe it's been that long). Here is my oldest, stringing the marshmallow out of her smore with her tongue. It was a great summer capture, and one that holds all the wonder of the first ever s'more (as it was for her).
