the thrill of serendipity

Ten minutes later my beloved friend walked barefoot down that beach in cream silk, orchids in her hair. Later she saw this shot of all her friends and family waiting with the chupah and she said there were surfers? and I smiled, knowing this unexpected adornment was more fitting than all the flower garlands in the world.

This Monday, show us your unexpected adornments. Those moments where, camera in-hand and focused, you're given a gift - a chance encounter so random and so ideal that even two or three disbelieving hits upon the shutter are enough to capture a gem.

While trying to capture a shot of a spider in it's web in Scotland, I found a series of images that looked as if I'd caught a fairy spirit instead.

I wonder what does it look like to you?

This is a picture I took inside the Duomo in Milan. I always try to 'catch' people in my pictures because they add an interesting quality. In this one, the lady and her son added an unexpected creepy quality. It made me think of my own ghost stories:

I snapped this on a whim while on my study abroad program in Paris.

Unfortunately it's a poor reproduction of it (it was taken on film), but the posture of the nanny still comes through loud and clear. :o) And, put briefly, this one captured moment has changed many lives for the better--including mine!

The second shot in this series is one of my favorite serendipity shots ever:

I was bent over taking a picture of the dandelion when that rascally chicken stuck her neck out and grabbed a mouthful. I never saw her until I downloaded the picture and then I had to laugh and laugh at my "catch."

Happy accidents! Here is a shot where I was just taking pictures of the shadows of the trees on the brick sidewalk and a couple was walking by holding hands which made for a much more sweet and interesting shot.

I was on the last summer trip to the mountains during for Labor Day weekend. The summer flowers were going to be gone soon and I wanted badly to photograph all the sunflowers and the snapdragons. Just as I got ready to shoot a close up of a gorgeous sunflower, a butterfly landed on it and this is just one of many I took that day...

Last summer I was taking pictures of my flowers and when I returned to my computer I had a little surprise waiting for me.
