in photo fashion

We all have our own unique style and flair in the way we use our cameras; how we shoot, what we shoot...each of us a little different; distinctly us. And the longer we shoot the more into our own groove we get. But what about our photography accessories?

To be honest, I never really thought about it for the majority of my career. It was what it was. Black camera, black strap, black bag. Period. Style? What style? You mean there are choices?

Unlike 15 years ago, when there really weren’t many choices, today there all sorts of cool options. Companies are beginning to recognize us women more and more and –hallelujah—are even designing photo equipment and accessories with us in mind!

Spending time last summer with some pretty hip photo chicks, I noticed that I was one of the only ones without a nifty, personalize camera strap. Hey, wait a minute, what’s going on around here! You mean I can actually choose a strap of my very own? And don’t get me started on cool camera bags!

My search took me straight to Etsy which is loaded with amazing choices for girlie photo gear (and when I say girlie I am not just talking pink) most of which are hand made. And then there is the unprecedented PhotoJojo Store. Take their latest addition; the recycled seat belt camera strap (shown above). This baby is obviously not just for women but it does deliver that something funky I was looking for. And I am LOVING my teal beauty not only for its funk but for its function. It can be quickly adjusted so that my camera actually sits at my hip level (you can wear it like you would a messenger bag) which is ideal because I literally shoot from the hip as much as I do looking through my view finder.

What do you do/have/wear that gives your equipment a little pizzazz? Anything out of the ordinary? Do you have any discoveries to share? Leave a comment here and you could win one of these fine seatbelt straps courtesy of our friends at PhotoJojo.

I never thought about accessorizing my camera this way. Very interesting. It gives me something to add to my wish list.

I'm relatively new in the photography world, so all my accessories are the default colors, black and grey. I even have the Nikon bag that came with my Nikon camera. I find it relatively amusing that for field that is very creative, that everything that comes with it is a blank canvas of black. I guess artists are all so different in their personallity that it has to be that way. I can't wait to accessorize.

I actually didn't know such things existed - so I hae a black samsonite camera bag and the Canon strap that came with my camera - I am so pleased that I will be able to customise things a little! I will also have to pass this info onto my girly photography friends!

I love different straps. Although I have decided to go the way of the strap cover as Im just to scared to guarantee someones camera on my sewing skills.. that is a little to much pressure. I love the covers because you can change them up often, and they are a cheaper alternative then the straps. I think so anyway. I love those seat belt straps, very green!

Oh, I love Souldier camera straps. I think they were the first to do custom at affordable price years ago. Tons of people on etsy doing it, but the quality is just not there, most are taking the crappy straps that came with the camera and putting cheap fabric on it. I don't want a Yugo, I need a Porsche. Hey I paid over $8,000 for this gear, it needs to be strong and beautiful. They have over 500 or so vintage patterns for the 60's and you can customize various color options on the camera strap. I got the Neil Young Peace Dove design on white recycled seatbelt and went to one of Neil's concerts and a roadie with his band saw me and talked backstage to me just because of the camera strap matches Neil Young's guitar straps. Plus I got to meet Neil Young. Thanks Souldier:)
