Before You Fly

nest

Before you fly, I'm learning, you have to have a nest.  I've always had trouble patching together a safe place, prefering instead to stay aflight, above the fray.  This time, however, I'll have to land before I take off.  I'll have to find my own circle of quiet where the truth sits like a robin's blue egg waiting for a warm place to hatch, waiting for the hope of a new life to be born.

Show us your nest today--that cozy corner of your house, your home, your soul where you understand everything's going to be so all right, no matter where you fly, no matter where you soar.

Hmmm... My nest is my nook. The kitchen nook. I love that place. So many stories, laughs and tears are shared there all the time. It's a place of merry shopping, eating, drinking, reading, writing, kissing and chatting. Hmmm. Thanks for this post. I love the world 'nest' these days.... here is my nook: http://www.gypsygirlsguide.com/2009/04/reflections_from_the_kitchen_n.html

I have always loved creating a sense of peace at home, feeling safe and cozy, but always with a touch of quirky! Here is a look into my current nest: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kcmartin/3475636882

Sometime my nest is out in the 'happy places' where I walk:

I love those little bulbs in that nest - such a perfect picture of them.

I'm so grounded in my nest sometimes it's hard for me to fly. My safe place is my family, home and nature.

I hope you don't mind but I'm linking these photos of my kitchen remodel, where I spend all of my time, where I am right now. It is definitely the place I love the most in my home. Most of these photos were professionally done, but you can also see my some of my handiwork.

Congratulations Shutter Sisters in your win. I can't wait to see photographs of your adventure.

My nest....where I spend hours and hours processing photos, enjoying the photos of others, reading and learning new techniques, etc. My personal private space!

I feel grounded anywhere in my home. I love it so. I especially love being on the porch or in the yard.

The morning sun streams in through this window, and I love to sit here with a book and a cup of tea. Our little red house, built by my father and lovingly furnished by my mother, was my childhood home and thus, literally, my nest. :)

This is definitely my nest. Wish I was there now. Those pillows look decadent.

i have moved a lot. as a child, and now in my adulthood. home to me is not a place, but rather a feeling. where i am centered. where my heart feels safe. so today my home is in my children. they center me, keep me safe, they are home.

It still amazes me how just a hug from my husband can make the whole world disappear:

I am not sure how long I will be living in this house. But we built it on top of an old house we bought. It was our first project together as a family. I love it.
I need a nest right now. So badly.

My whole house does this for me. I love being at home. But I love my desk and the space I've created to sit and work.

This is one of the best posts I've ever read. So inspirational! I don't have a lot of time to do a photo right now, but I will in time. Just wanted to let you know that I LOVE what you wrote!

My nest...interesting. I am in a coma, of sorts, tonight, so don't have anything to share other than my thoughts. I love the photo. I love the web site. I love thinking about my "nest" - but can't come up with a clear visual. I don't think I'm done building it yet!

This is a pic of my sweet, silly son. We were at the tulip festival and you can see his natural little boy nature in his goofy pose.

maybe it's because i've moved around a lot. maybe it's because i still don't have that sense of belonging in my current abode. maybe it's because i know that i have yet to find my 'true home'... but i don't have a place that i can relate to as my special place, my nest.
one thing i do know, however, is that when i am overwhelmed, i get down on the ground, or on the floor... and, there, i can breathe and feel, almost instantly, so much better. during my labours, i lay on the floor. stretching and contracting there just felt like the natural place to be, for me.

It's not pretty, but I nest in front of the TV for at least an hour every day. It's were I'm most relaxed. Once in awhile, I'll get an unexpected nap too! :)
