exploring at home

I have an ever-expanding list of online bookmarks called "Travel Ideas". When I read about an inspiring adventure, whether it was at a luxury resort in the Caribean, or a just a kid-friendly site about Galveston, the act of "saving" it makes me feel like I'm half way to actually being there.

So the other day I photographed one of my favorite families. They are originally from Texas, but have been living in Holland. With the idea that she'd like to do an urban session, Debbie suggested that we go down to this place called Mi Tierra. I've lived here for six years, and had never even heard of this long-time San Antonio landmark. It's a bakery/restaurant that stays open 24 hours a day. Plus there are beautiful vibrant walls and colorful banners everywhere around the area. It's now one of my favorite places to shoot. And it's also another reminder about how much we tend to ignore the treasures that exist in our own town or city.

What local adventures have you found through your lens lately?

We have recently been purposely seeking out those hidden spots in this city that I have lived in most of my life because we are planning a move out of state and want to feel like we took the time to treasure all those hidden spots.
Recently I went on the hunt for some good graffiti and came across this building only a few miles from where we live.
It really is amazing what is just around the corner when we take the time to look!

Though I've been following the blog for quite some time already, it's my first time posting :)

I feel so blessed to be living in a hugely interesting country right now-- Albania! Though I'm originally from Canada I have lived abroad for almost 15 years. Albania has to be the most unusual place I've lived so far. I advise all of you to put it on your "must see" list!

Recently my friend and I took a roadtrip quite off the beaten path and we discovered an awesome community that is producing organic honey with the most basic equipment.

I've felt a need to explore my little city lately. It's not a big place, and sometimes it feels like I've run out of photo ideas. Which is silly, of course...I just need to look!

Your image is wonderful, truly.

I recently (as in last weekend!) discovered a park here in the county where I grew up that I never knew about. It's right on the hudson river and now is my favorite place to shoot! I did my first shoot there two days ago, and I was so happy with the spot - tons of different options and just a lovely lovely backdrop.

I have loved our holiday to Salt Spring Island located among the gulf islands off the coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia in Canada. I am going to try to send a link to just the picture in my blog, hopefully it works! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1T86TaL9eFs/ScsSiqWBD0I/AAAAAAAAAes/pZMSxoit7dk/s1600-h/DSC_0114.JPG

I live 5 minutes away from wild areas in all 4 directions....north, south, east or west. I often just drive out there and this is what I found yesterday morning.....it's always an adventure, just usually a quiet one.

I didn't know any of the Shutter Sisters were San Antonians. I hope our paths cross sometime soon.
