crimbo limbo

Here we are in “Crimbo Limbo” - the period between Christmas and New Year. Full of all the goodness that the Christmas festivities brought, reflecting on 2010 and waiting for the celebrations and the New Year to begin.

I’ve been enjoying time with my family, catching up with friends, playing games, cooking & eating food, and generally relaxing. All the while photographing the memories of festivities, spying the decorations and capturing the friendly faces surrounding me and the people I love.

I’m grateful. For the pleasures of life and for this time. Being in “Limbo” has been good.

Somehow this week is the longest of the year, which is simultaneously wonderful and also a little vexing, because it's a little foreshadowing of the months to come between now and Spring. Not to be a Debbie Downer about it, as I've gotten older, I'm definitely learning to see the beautiful lines of a stripped down landscape, but it's awfully cold in these parts! With that in mind, I decorated the house with white paper this year (think 3rd grade class room crafts...paper chains, paper snowflakes etc) for the holidays, and while the tree will be taken down this weekend, I'm planning on leaving the white stuff up for the month of January because I'm just not ready to strip my house of it's festive cheer. So I'm doing that, extending the decorations and snapping the shutter to commemorate the months of limbo ahead. :)

Oh... its the "let go" week... crazy busy before with baking, shopping, wrapping, decorating... now the house is in a bit of a shamble... but ya let it go.. cuz New Year's eve you clean up and put away everything from the current year, so you can start the new year fresh!!!
So you let go of the cleaning, you let go of cooking (eating leftovers mostly), let go of the diet (to eat all the left overs before the new year)... then 12/31 you clean up, toss out, and otherwise rid yourself of all the current year stuff.. 1/1 is NEW.. all new and back on track....

the photo is fuzzy. but guess what the topic of the mondo beyond dream lab is ...fuzziness. no not really, the topic is called 'the gifts of imperfection' but somehow i think it means the same thing. and sounds very dreamy and appropriate for this portrait photographer wannabe. happy crimbo to all.

Crimbo Limbo is an awesome name. I love that!

I usually take off of work that week, as I did this year, because it is the perfect time for me. I enjoy being off while my kids are off from school. The stress of Christmas frenzy & travel is over, so it's a time to just enjoy each other and take a deep breath. And a reflective time.

I am so stealing this name. :)
