stories

These hands have seen many things.  These hands have held generations of babies,  held my babies.  This day they hold a child's wildflower bouquet picked just for her and I am drawn to how very gentle her hands are.  How graceful she holds each uneven stem, gathering them together to take back to her room.  Her skin is thin now and spotted by age.  I imagine she has held many a bouquet in her hands but none more important on this day.  This day belongs to these flowers alone. These hands tell stories, clap wildly to songs from her childhood in England, and hug with a fierce warmth.  These hands knew a war first hand.  These hands traveled an ocean alone to begin a new life and family, here.  She is not mine by birth, but by marriage, and I am so very blessed to know her and my children are further blessed for these years of knowing her too.  We live in different states, so when visiting I try hard to capture pieces of her but inevitably come home feeling like I did not take enough. When you are ninety two years young every moment together is a gift as are these images. Images like this one above are treasures to myself and my children.  Treasures that will help us always remember her loving hands, her stories, her.

What stories have you captured lately?

What a beautiful tribute - both visual and verbal - to your mother.
This is a recent one of mine - reminding my kids of their father's very first car:

The story of a wee dog, Greyfriars Bobby, is a famous one, and every year thousands of people who visit Edinburgh take the time to visit his gravestone and leave messages, flowers and gifts. I always find them hugely touching.

Every single photo has a story. Sometimes I like it when there is no caption or only part of a story with the photo so the rest is left up to your interpretation. :)

I love this photo and the memories you are capturing of this important woman in your life. Beautiful!

The story in my post today is the opposite of yours...the subject is 2, not 92; and it's about feet instead of hands!

i travel a lot to southern africa and i'm always amazed at the beauty that is created from the disparity of life. Here's an example of that contrast, from the anticipation that comes before a world cup soccer match to the cleanup that comes afterwards, there is still a simple beauty within both:

I've said this recently on another SS post: THIS is the reason I come to SS. The writing is equally as adept as the inspiring photography. What a beautiful post -- this post is a treasure. Thank you.

I have a little series of photos that I took of my neighbors talking to their son via iChat. They look so happy and proud I had to share.

Beautiful image.

I didn't mean to capture a story when I made this image, but I did. This is what I remember Summer feeling like. I remember how excited it was to go to a friends house with a pool and how we would BEG our parents to get in the pool with us. Once in, all of the kids would line up to get launched in the air.

Perfection.

Cheers,
Anne

This is so wonderful. Reminds me of my Grandmother. (She is sadly no longer with us, but, oh, the memories of her that I still cherish...)

Some photographs I took this morning of slides dating back to 1959 and 1960.

Thought I'd share a photo of a camera that has captured many more stories than mine - my dad's old Nikon FM. Very fond memories of him toting it around and teaching me how to read the light meter. :)

I adore this, thanks for sharing.

I try to capture a lot of moments of my son with my grandmother, who is 95 and such a blessing to our lives.

These jerseys which are interestingly termed retro basketball jerseys are old school. Here is an example, men football jerseys, Kobe’s jersey at the present time, but the Lakers look 20 years ago. That would be an example of the throwback kind. Sports stars put them on now and again during games also.site:http://www.nfljerseyonline.com

Most of these jerseys state they’re replicas, sports jerseys store, yet in fact aren’t. They are the cheapest ones out there. They’ve screen imprinted lettering, additionally are made of the least expensive fabrics availableNike.

My beloved grandmother turns 93 in 2 days. This past winter she was very ill, but has rallied and is almost back to herself. We are celebrating her birthday tonight and I am bringing my camera to capture "those hands". Thanks for the inspiration!
