reflections

Reflections are everywhere.

Earlier this week there was talk of doubling up, creating a double exposure. What about using a reflection to shoot faces?

When you intentionally shoot a reflection portrait, the results are charming and delightful.

I love self portraits captured in a reflection, some with camera in hand, in a shop window or a wall of vintage mirrors, and sometimes with company of our loved ones.

Have you any portrait reflections? Why not seek out a mirror today for your own self portrait and share it with us.

“Mirror mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all.”

You are.

Here are some reflection shots I took of my daughter a few weeks ago. It was really the first time I'd played around with that, and I loved trying it. This post made me want to try it again.

Anyway, here's the link:

I am always trying to catch my husband 's reflection ... sometimes to remind him later that even though it seems I'm always looking through my camera, I still see him all around me.

Lovely shot! This is me at a classic-car show:

I love that you can capture such unique perspectives in reflections. Especially if you aren't looking through the viewfinder for self-portraits. One of my recent fav self portraits is in an elevator mirror:

And this is a recent fav of my son:

I've never tried such an obvious reflection shot as yours. I love it and want to try! Here's an old post of mine with a reflection/self-portrait. It's the third image.

This is the result of forgetting to turn my flash off when I was attempting to take a self-portrait in the mirror:

One of my favorite self-portraits is a reflection image I took at the local Museum of Science. I was photographing my daughter playing with my husband, looked around and saw my image here:

Love this post! So often we're taught to believe that too much time in front of your reflection means you're vain. But using mirrors and reflections is my favorite way to do self-portraits: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stephaniecourt/4747213196/in/set-72157624262368017/

I also like to use it to capture others "in the moment" without them realizing I'm taking a picture. Here, my boyfriend was waiting patiently for his coffee and I loved how the mirrors behind the bar broke up his reflection while still capturing his peaceful mood: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stephaniecourt/4910224457/in/set-72157624767617908/

I often shoot shadows and neglect reflections. Thanks for giving me something new to think about!

Here's a recent self portrait attempt from a trip to DC.

I shot this reflection of myself in the mirror last night. It's sort of that final look, checking makeup and hair before I head out.

These are all so wonderful!

Here I am, peering into the window of our front door. I took this last spring and now I can't help but wonder where the heck that butterfly wreath has gone to! :)

This pretty much sums up our family right now -- me with camera in hand, babe chewing on the strap, husband trying to talk our two-year-old out of his bread:

I've been trying to do more of these because it really captures my life right now. I've got a camera in hand & I want that to be remembered in 30 years.

*I choked up a bit when I clicked on my photo. Thanks for that on a Friday night! oxoxo*

I love the soft light of my bathroom. I wish I could carry it around with me everywhere! The play at the edges is from the bevel on the mirror.
