change of seasons

As much as I wish I could cling on to summer forever, autumn is here in the UK. I’ve been in denial even though the signs are clear. The days are shortening, the clouds have moved over and are staying longer, and the mornings are dark with that crisp air on your face.

Thankfully my lens will help me embrace the change of seasons, and luckily autumn has plenty of beauty to offer, easing me into this colder spell. The light changes as the angle of the sun moves and we see less of her bright warming light. The abundant greens, turn into a kaleidoscope of colours that makes my heart race. Even my biggest enemy, the rain, can be beautiful...

This year I’m going to soak up all that autumn offers and use my camera as a tonic to change. I will try and use my viewfinder to search and seek beauty, all helped by daily prompts from Tracey’s Picture Fall, which starts today, will you join us as we dive into autumn feet first?

How do you find the change of seasons? and will you share with us it’s beauty today?

Living in southern California, the change of seasons is not as dramatic as other areas. But since starting my first Project 365 just over two months ago, I feel I am much more aware of even the subtle changes in the season and beauty that is everywhere all the time. But with this change into fall, I am seeing it most in the changing colors of the leaves.

I am so excited for Picture Fall!
Because I felt so uninspired lately with all the rain here in Germany. But once in a while I sneak out into the rain for a while and capture something like this:

And I know that sometimes it is good to go out even when it is pouring rain!

That is such a beautiful, bejewelled photograph. Where I come from, it's spring, and I've been taking endless photos of blossom. Here are two ...

This picture took my breath away. It is just beautiful. And I agree with you- there is great beauty to be found in the effects of rainfall if you just look for it.

Autumn in New England is all about color:

I love the change of seasons... the crisp feeling that comes into the air in the morning is a sweet relief after the heat of summer. Here is a recent capture of the leaves changing in Paris:

Beautiful shot. It's still hot here in the desert and yet something is beginning to shift: http://instamaticgratification.wordpress.com/2010/09/19/247365/

I totally understand your reluctance to give up on summer but hopefully this year Autumn will bring us less rain and more of those crisp sunny days.

Thank you for featuring my conker photo in this article. I love reading your posts and visiting your Flickr stream. Your photos and words are an inspiration.

Happy Autumn.

I seek out the colors and light of fall in New England, and embrace the traditions of pumpkins and cozy scarves and shuffling in leaves...until it all turns brown and then I get depressed. :)

I love autumn but wish is weren't over so quickly, especially since the inevitable Minnesota winter is not far behind it. Like a squirrel hunting for nuts, I scurry about insanely looking for every last bit of color I can record - the things that will get me through winter ;)

I do love the colors of fall being the color junky that I am and I think the October sky is the truest bluest sky of the entire year. I try really hard to like fall but I can't knowing what's on the other side.

I'm really looking forward to Picture Fall! When I woke this morning it was the first thing on my mind and I couldn't wait to fire up the computer for the prompt.

In these parts the fair is a true sign of the change from summer to fall.

it's actually spring here ... although it's still cool ... and spring in Melbourne equals cherry, plum, apple & magnolia blossoms! And I'm so excited!

I took a picture similar to this. The morning sun on the dew is irrisitable and I can't stay away from the leaves.

Beautiful photo!

I was about to share a particular photo of mine and then realized you'd linked to it already. Thank you so much! One of the things I love about the fall is that the sun starts to be lower in the sky all day long, and there are more hours to find beautiful light. During the summer the best light is often during the hours when I am busy with family things, and now the light is gorgeous in the afternoon:

An amazing bokeh, Xanthe! Autumn is wonderful in your shot. Even if I am not instinctively a big fan of shortening light hours and colder cloudier days!
I can see the change in season in the light, which is somehow crisper and more terse, as in this shot:

I spent the last year in Arizona, where fall doesn't really exist (or at least not in the New England sense of the word). Now that I'm living in Massachusetts, I am overjoyed to see changing leaves, cooler temperatures, and rain!

The sparkle and shine in your photo are so beautiful.

As much as I love summer, I am finding myself more willing to let it go since I began daily picture taking. By actively looking for the beauty, I am often amazed by what I see.

We're WELL into autumn. In fact, for nearly a month and soon there will be no leaves on the trees at all. Right now, half the trees or more are bare already.

Here's a photo I took a few weeks ago:

and one I took last week, but uploaded today:

Our month of September was full of rain. So we still have lush, green grass, while the trees are turning shades of oranges and reds. Took this one while on a walk a few days ago:

Fall also means the beginning of a new school year, leading to learning fun new photography techniques, including my first try at HDR: =D

Oh, such a beautiful picture! Just a hint of Fall, not full blown Fall.
In the Midwest, our September was so hot and not so much like Fall, but I can feel it now.

How I wish I could show some gorgous autumn colour! It's been mostly dreary here for weeks. As the photo below shows, with it's grey, rough, sea. The sky was quite magical though :)

In celebartion of the changing season I created a colorful autumnal desktop that folks can download and enjoy. I think it kind of perks up the old computer and makes it feel like fall. You can check it out here, enjoy.

Even after 15 years, fall still isn't fall for me here in Northern California after the zam-pow! falls of eastern Canada. But I'm learning to love it's more subtle arrival...
