fall colors

1. september night, 2. ~ Fall Colour~, 3. breathe in october sunshine, 4. Red Onions, 5. painting fall, 6. Baby pumpkins

Maybe it's because we do not have celebrations like Halloween or Thanksgiving to look forward to where I live, maybe it's the rapid change in light, or my kitchen countertop that is slowly turning into a pharmacy shelf, but the transition from summer into winter has not been easy for me this year. And the only thing that helps me get through the darker days, besides blowing on a warm cup of tea and thumbing through favorite books, is to pay attention to the beautiful colors around me. The warmer shades of yellow and orange, the wine and roast-colored hues. They all remind me to look beyond the circumstances of life, and delight in the beauty of the simple things.

Today show us your fall colors.

It doesn't seem to have been as colorful here in my neck of the woods, probably because of the bizarre weather we've had this summer and fall. Here is a photo I took during my son's soccer game

We're getting some color in New England...and apparently, some snow very soon. Yikes!

Mother Nature seems to be in a rush for winter to begin as we anticipate 4-8" of snow today and this evening. I, myself, am in no rush.

I was joined this week by a friend and fellow photography enthusiast (Mamadunk from above!) on a hike up a mountain with spectacular views where from the peak we could see Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. It was so good for the heart and soul.

I live in Portugal and so far it has been sunny most of the time. but when it rains the wind is really strong and it's hard to go out (and very uncomfortable) so I've only been posting sunny photos and don't want to think about Winter just yet. the days are growing shorter (tomorrow we'll change to Winter hour) and what helps me this time of year is the thought of Xmas. something serendipitous, I've feature *kuki* photo on my blog yesterday! here the weather is too dry so we don't have much yellow or red leaves, it's either green or dry.

We can never tell exactly how autumn will develop in Indiana.
Early? Late? Lots of rain so it's over quickly?
Will we have an "Indian Summer"? (I always hope for this!)

What a lovely photo set! It has a peaceful/tranquil quality to it even though you've described your transition into this changing of seasons as more of an unsettled one. I love how photography has the ability to be that extension of our deeper selves that we need to summon to find beauty when we're coming up short otherwise. {whew! that was a long and garbled response!}
Anyway, here's what I've most recently captured - autumn in my garden.

It really begins to feel like fall when the pumpkins appear! This one was so large, it took me awhile to figure out how to capture it...here's on attempt.

We've been promised a spectacular autumn this year and I think it has finally begun! These photos are from a family walk this afternoon in The New Forest (England) - it was bliss... http://www.angiemuldowney.co.uk/2011/10/let-the-show-begin/

Such a wonderful collection of fall hues. This is my favorite time of year - the angle of the light renders such beauty.

I nabbed a few shots before the leaves all fell off the trees.

And had to get creative looking for colour once the leaves were gone.

October is my super most favoiurite month of the year. we don't celebrate Halloween ourselves so it's never held a draw, but autum has always seemed to be at its utmost beauty in this month. On the Canadian West-coast I was given an extra treat this year: autumn shone her most brilliant-est during the week of my birthday! It's a realtively short season here - nestled quietly between summer sun and winter rain (we rarely see snow) - and I'm so thankful to have had it during an extra special time of the year.

After having attended camp, I would have to say that Autumn really is a whole season of "golden hour" opportunities, since the light is warm and gentle, and the colours often so poignant!

I've ventured out the last three Friday afternoons looking for fall color. Hiking along the Eno River in NC, late afternoon two weeks ago I came upon this magical scene:
