Oh My Word

I am a word junky. I have inspirational word art all over our home.

A few years ago, my oldest son, Brett commented 'it's like you have subliminal messages, everywhere, Mom!' He went on to list a few of the signs around our home... 'live-love-laugh, give us this day our daily bread, laughter lives here, home sweet home, be still and know that I am God'...  He kept going.  I had no idea Brett had even noticed the signs, let alone remembered what they said. I'm not sure he was overly impressed by any of it.  But I will never forget that conversation.

I don't think my love for words will ever fade.  They are so powerful. A simple word can truly turn your world around.  I discovered that in 2010. After reading about Ali Edward's one little word concept, a light came on. I had to pick a word. Heck, I was all about words!  In 2010 I choose the word Soar. And Soar I did. This year I have choosen the word Build. And so far so good. Build I am!

But what about the everyday words all around us? The simple messages, just waiting to inspire us? This sweet little birdie came from my friend Elk. She has a way of turning words into soft whispers of inspiration.

'Giving...it's that simple'

'sigh'....truly brilliant!

I love the concept of capturing 'words' within a photo.

Here's a few little bitties to inspire. 'Happy Birthday xo', 'Wish', Ink, Live What You Love...

This month, as we continue to honor words here at Shutter Sisters, our word for the One Word Project is going to be words. In other words, since our word is words, we'll be capturing and celebrating the images that feature words, whatever those may be!

So, what words are waiting to inspire  you? We'd love to see them. And don't forget to share your shots with us in our OWP flickr pool!

As primarily a writer, I have to say that 'word' is a brililant word :) Thank you!

I love words! I think images paired with words increase the meaning of both. And finding an image with the words included, is like a little message from the universe. Here is one of those found messages that is sure to bring a smile to your day:

because i think words can sometimes be an important reminder, i stamped them on my rings so one can see their special word everyday. "Bloom where planted" has meaning for me.

Kim,
Great post! Words are fascinating. I have words and phrases all over my studio and in journals. They inspire me and start my mind wandering on new dreamy paths!

I sometimes struggle with the question of whether words are a cop-out in the world of photography and whether the photos should stand alone. But words are my first love, so as I develop my photography practice I like to hope that they augment my vision. I'll take your post as encouragement that they're allowed to do just that.

I love this. And I am also a sucker for words. In photos, in art, everywhere! Love it. My word this week was paint.

My word for 2011 is "open". I am actually taking Ali Edwards One Little Word online scrap booking course so I snapped this photo one day with this project in mind.

The diminutive word "do" sure has a lot of power. Consider: "I do" or "just do" or "will do."

I love Yogi tea and drink it daily. I love to read the sweet messages on the tea bags. Sometimes it's exactly what I need to hear.

Caputuring words in a photo never really occurred to me, but I had to jump on this after reading about it. I love words, scrabble, and especially words with J for 10 points (preferrably placed on the triple word tile) on scrabble. It took me a few days to finally decide on a word. Finally, ENJOY was it. There's things you have to do and things you want to do. It's easy to take pleasure in those you want to do. As for the ones you have to, you're going to do it anyway so you might as well enjoy it. So that pretty much means whatever you're doing, make the best of it and enjoy.
