obstructed view

I raced the sunset last night; home to grab my camera and back up to the highest hill in town in anticipation of the last light and color of the evening.

I made it in time but was disappointed by the view. How was it that I forgot about the fence up there that stood between myself and the expansive sky?

Regardless the obstacle, I shot a number of images. Looking up, across, vertical, horizontal and finally, through. And of all the shots, there was something about the shot that included the obstruction that captured my interest. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. In this case, it kind of worked.

Last night, as I was waiting for the moon to clear the trees, I took a few shots not sure how they would turn out. I ended up really liking them, with the moon out of focus and the branches in silhouette. It was kinda tricky because I was shooting with my lens against my telescope eye piece.

I like the texture the fence brings to your sunset.

I have so many wonderful accidents that it was hard to choose which one to share. I chose this one because I love how the wall stands in stark contrast to the birds and the soft sky. It was taken from a boat heading back to Cape Town and, although the proportions are all wrong, it works somehow.

Well I love the shot. The fence pattern adds a very intriguing design element and feel to the image. It's all about the risk. I finally posted my "looking up" photo. But it works here today too. I shot it from a slowly moving car. I knew I probably wouldn't nail the focus. But I think the color and upful mood came through. :)

Some different kinds of obstacles here...I took this picture out of the window of a car, while being driven to meet my daughter's birth family in rural Ethiopia...I was just trying to capture some of the scenery to share with her later, and didn't even realize what I had shot until weeks after we got home from the trip...it will always be for me the picture that expresses the wonder and the complexity of that journey...

I really like your image - it gives a perspective of being inside looking out which could be taken in a number of ways. I never strive for perfection in photos, for one thing it's unrealistic at my level of photography and for another, those imperfect images are often more interesting.

Mine is an old photo from a few years back. I took it with my previous powershot I'd just purchased at the time. I was trying to take a photo of some bead curtains moving in the breeze and the late afternoon light hitting them turned into one of my favourite photos for some reason.
