Two (or more) Is Better Than One

There were six of us, all of us friends since high school, living like pampered royalty for three glorious days in a fabulous home on the coast, no husbands, kids or troubles allowed.  It was a photographer's dream being there and my camera, along with the requisite glass of wine or cocktail, was always just a reach away. I took so many photos but just one photo alone couldn't begin to tell the story of our time together, so I chose the 4 photos that summed up the weekend the most and put it together in this collage/dyptych.  Just one look and my girlfriends and I are taken right back to a weekend that I know we will cherish and remember forever.

How about you? Have you ever made a collage or dyptych? Please share with us today your photo stories.  We'd love to see them.

I ♥ diptychs and did a photo project with a blog friend for a whole month, and then I made a blurb-book out of that project too! It was a lot of fun!.

I never knew it was called diptychs. Is it different from collages?

Anyway, I played a bit with these kind of formats before. It's fun. And now you made me want to do more like that :-)

Too funny. I don't do them often but I actually just did two recently:

I wasn't even thinking about displaying these photos together when I took them - I was just trying to convey a mood and I couldn't decide which angle was best. They ended up being the showpiece of my first gallery show.

I haven't done too many. I did do one for some images that I felt needed each other to be stronger and tell the story:

http://www.pbase.com/skiingrn1/image/125069685

and I had fun with this technique to display individual images from a panorama like a dyptych instead of stitching them together:

my daughter and i post photos together as a dyptych on our blog - so many days i fall in love with what the two images together say - or just the crazy synchronicity between them.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/autumnsun/sets/72157626212888800/with/5456926415/

and when i have more photos than i can share i put them together in a collage to tell the story, especially vacation photos

Recently I have been doing more and more diptychs, triptychs, and collages. It's such a fun way to highlight themed photos. Here's mine from this past weekend.

I love diptychs but I just don't do them often enough. One of my favorites was this one from a cherry pie I made last summer. I wanted to tell the full story of the pie's deliciousness!! http://bigmariolife.blogspot.com/2010/06/bowl-full-of-cherries-re-post.html

I did one of a tree outside our apartment last spring. It was spring in Calgary, but winter is never far off, hence the brown tree in the middle!

Oh yes...I didn't realize there was a name for these types of photos. I've been practicing a little with these and I have one okay success. It really tells the story of my decorating style. Feel free to take a look and let me know what you think!

I love diptychs - love the stories they can tell and just so lovely. I need to sit down and make the diptychs of some of the images I have in my mind!

This is one of my favorites - part of a challenge I did back in the fall. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrssoup/5185029934/in/set-72157625240450437/

I love to do collages, so great for blogging. My favorite is to create them online with Picnik.com. It's so easy. But for specialty items templates and photoshop are the greatest.

One from a recent weekend here in the midst of a Utah winter.

I did my first one last week. I was quite proud of it! It was for a photography challenge:

Being one of the "treasured six" I can tell you that your dyptych says it all. Sure there were many other events to treasure but this triggers the thought process. I love your artistic talent and creativity, and I am so proud to call you my friend. I love Sutter Sisters too, as I am always learning something new on this site. Ten minutes ago I had no idea what a dyptych was?

And here's one that I took last week of a photo shoot of some Candy, that my "assistant" hijacked!
