just kids

1. DSC_0505, 2. “As happens sometimes, a moment settled and hovered and remained for much more than a moment. And sound stopped and movement stopped for much, much more than a moment.”, 3. upside down, 4. Day 345 of 365, 5. Just For Fun, 6. untitled-1028-2

This is a small selection of gorgeous kids shots from our Shutter Sisters Flickr Pool. Beautiful images that let little ones reveal themselves with an overwhelming sense of authenticity and truth, and remind us to be mindfully present and playful, always.

Today capture the silly, the cute and messy, the innocent and hilarious of childhood, and share your photos with us in the comment section below.

ps: The April session of the Simple Soulful Photography workshop starts next week April 4th! Join me and featured guests including Marianne ElliottKaren Walrond and Amanda Gilligan for the four-week online course and explore the connection between creativity and self-care, learn basics but essential techniques on composition and lighting, and embrace, cultivate and express your most authentic self in a supportive community.

Ohhhh every one of those photos above is gorgeous! Nothing more inspiring in the whole world than kids.

I have 6 nieces and nephews, so whenever I'm home I try to make my camera see them as the fun kids they are. Here are some favorites of mine.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/deniselivingston/4534828229/ (I love the dirty fingernails - Sign of a good hard-playing kid)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/deniselivingston/4968726677/ (My favorite - Little "Tuck Tuck" falling behind; his little legs just can't keep up)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/deniselivingston/5357890218/ (Not my family. I captured this in Seal Beach, CA. I love the reflection of the sky in the water - Looks like she's putting ripples into the clouds.)

Rather than post a shot from today, I'm sharing an old favorite of my nephew. It was a fun challenge to capture the sheer joy of this moment. Children's faces are so expressive, and I think this was my best shot. I think it does both his joy and mischief justice.

when i saw this post, i immediately thought of this shot i took a couple of days ago. i love the hair blowing all over her face and the huge smile you can find underneath it as she's having so much fun swinging and pumping all by herself.

This is my favourite picture of my smallest boy Geordie. He never stands still (EVER) so the fact he looks almost contemplative always amazes me...

Oh how I love to see the raw, uncoached expressions of children. As common as they are, they can be so hard to catch.
Once in a while, we have some luck.

On rare occasions, she is content to sit quietly:

It's such a joy to see them dreaming stuff up together:

Goodness. A good shot of a kid is about as good as it gets for me. Here are two I love. One of each of mine. I think each photo shows something of his/her personality:

Oh, how sweet all those photos are! They just make my smile. For some reason, your words inspired me to go back to these images I took, over a year ago, which seem to capture the essence of "boyhood" in our home:

He's asked us to save anything that is broken for him to use in his "inventions." Hmmmm. It is always interesting!

I've spent a lot of time trying to find three words that describe my work. As I shoot more, I feel closer to the essence. Now I'm working with heartfelt, mindful and real. Syncronicity?

Here are two recent images taken from my blog:

Couldn't resist sharing this moment from my home yesterday, my friend's daughter experiencing her first-ever cookie:

I just love shooting kids, precisely because they are so honest and un-self conscious.
