I loved reading Twyla Tharp's book. Just about everything she said resonated with me.
Running away..without leaving home. So perfect.
Here's one image:

Hardly had to leave home for either of them..but definitely did run away to find them!

Wow, wow, wow do I love that quote. I think I need to read Twyla Tharp's book!
Photography helps me run away to the center of myself, if that makes any sense...

When you have a small child, for a while the adventures get small too. But with the help of images, you can find adventures in the here and now. Mundane becomes comical and beautiful and worth savoring.

Light painting was brand new to me and it was fun to experiment right around the house with my camera and tripod.

There's something about taking pictures - it reminds you that there is still beauty in the world, that in the grand scheme of life things still make sense, that God is still in control. Here is a shot I took the other day when life had gotten too big and my husband took me on a photo drive to 're-center' me.

such an inspiring quote and shot!
I run away by plunging myself into photographing the spring blossoms, it recenters me. here's one of the resulting shots:

When something grabs my attention and I reach for my camera time just flies by as I lose myself in the subject in front of my lens. I am absorbed by the subtle changes in the quality of the light and how they change what I see. I can easily shoot 100 frames of just one flower, viewing it from all angles.

I work in a field where I don't necessarily get to always see the best side of people. As a result,
when I'm feeling down, I escape to photography. Pretty pictures help remind me of the beauty
in the world.

i agree with Rebecca Weaver: photography reminds me of the abundance of beauty that is in the world.
also Kathryn: when i need to run away, i'll look back at what i've shot to remember what i've seen.

When I stroll the neighborhood, I wonder what's inside the homes of others. Would I like there space more than my own? If I could trade spaces, would I? I think not, but I still wonder.

Such a perfect quote for today! Thank you!!

I use my lens all the time to run away...many times away from home...more often than not in my own back yard.

I've lost track of how many hours have been spent trudging through mosquito infested swamps and forest trails in search of my elusive friends...the more skittish the better!
http://winnipegweddingphotographybycoral.blogspot.com/2011/03/belted-kingfisher.html

Cruising the back roads brought me this fella, just sitting on a hydro wire
http://winnipegweddingphotographybycoral.blogspot.com/2011/03/western-meadowlark.html

But the best for me was this past month where I trekked 2km in and plopped my butt down in the snow for 4 hours being surrounded by these guys
http://winnipegweddingphotographybycoral.blogspot.com/2011/03/common-redpoll.html

That same day I had this fella eating out of my lap...truly an escape from the everyday life

My husband and I made a point of satisfying our travel bug before we recently started a family. During those trips, I captured our adventures through countless photos. Today, I treasure those photos (as I treasure all of my photos). Each time I look at them, it takes me back to that particular day, on that particular trip - when it was just the two of us - enjoying it just being the two of us and not knowing yet the joy that lay ahead of us with the start of our young family.

Here's one post on one of our favorite adventures - New Mexico and the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta:

I love running away in my photography. Time seems to stand still and the worries of the world fade. I am myself. It is almost like being in another world. Whenever I can, I love to take my husband with me on my photoadventures to that magical place.

That I can find such beauty through my lens in my own yard. No one would notice how the light shimmers and shines on these branches and I can stand there and study it forever. A real escape.

Wow, what a fabulous quote! I can so relate to that. Photography is definitely a way for me to run away, to have a little break from everything. When I look through my camera lens I see things differently, everything is more interesting, the details come to life.

Photography helped me so much after my last move, when I had to leave New York to go back to Switzerland. Seeing things through my camera lens just made everything seem more beautiful, brighter, and less overwhelming.

you can scroll through to see the other four balloon shots that would totally fit with this too.

love this image of yours so much, tracey... and that quote. it's so true! and so the reason i love art!
