Laughter

I keep looking at this outake from a recent portrait session and I can't stop thinking that I need more belly laughs, more fun and more lightness!

My client had insisted to drive almost 2 hours to see me even though it had been raining hard for a few days straight. I worried about finding the right location, about what she may be wearing (yep!), about those dark clouds that wouldn't move away, and I also sincerely hoped that our chemistry would make this a worthwhile session for both of us. The result: everything worked out for the best. In the last minute we even had a hint of sunshine. In fact, we had such a great hour and I couldn't have been more captivated with her smile. I mean, look at her energy! Finding this shot today was such a delight as it reminded me that I need (perhaps we all need) to keep things light, because in the end we do the best we can, and the rest unfolds without our control and just as it should.

So today, why don't you share some laughter and lightness with us. Show us those lit up faces that will remind us that everything is going to be okay.

My mom, who's in early stages of dementia seeing her sister (first time in many years) and cousin. It was a wonderful day for her.

I knew right away what photo I was going to post! I took this photo of my friends' son a couple months after they adopted him from an orphanage in eastern Europe. You'd never know that just two months before this little guy had an empty gaze that was heartbreaking to see. Due to his Down Syndrome he was headed for a life of institutionalization until this family adopted him, so when I see this photo it reminds me "Ah... This is what love looks like!" http://aidenproject.com/

Oh this one came immediately to mind. A young friend just kept snapping away as my 3 children and I tried to compose ourselves for an informal portrait. This remains my VERY favorite shot of the 4 of us.

Does it get better than a belly laugh of a toddler?

What a great idea! Sometimes we grow up and forget to laugh.
I love how the woman in your photo seems so fully engaged in the moment of fun, down to her shrugged shoulders and the flip of her skirt. Excellent.

This one never forgets to laugh:

"we do the best we can, and the rest unfolds without our control and just as it should." oh my goodness how much i needed to read those words. thank you for that. it is so true.
here is my favorite little gigglebox. she is very awesome at belly laughs, and her pirate smile doesn't hurt either.

I was getting ready to take shots of my daughter with a new bath bomb she had chosen as her prize for being good at the pharmacy which ended up taking longer than we thought. Before hand, I knew I wanted to try and get some pictures of us together. We had SO much fun....even though this was the only shot that was even marginally acceptable.

The fun was well worth it.

i read this post and thought immediately of this photo of my son...

he was eating breakfast and copying my girlfriend who was giggling at him. He would throw his head back and laugh "Ha ha ha ha" which would in turn cause my girlfriend to laugh..it was amusing and I am sooo happy I was able to capture this moment.
