old and worn...tattered and torn.....

I have a love for old and worn, tattered and torn. I love rust and peeling paint...chipped and crackled... Bring it on! Definitely love old abandoned buildings....especially antique RED barns. The older the better. Even our home is 107 years old.

'sigh'

Last Sunday (Mother's Day) John insisted we go for a drive.... he'd been out on an ambulance call the week before.... and discovered a few places he knew I must see! Oh my, was he right.

We found this sweet old barn....on an abandoned yard.... I'm thinking it'd be a wonderful photo shoot location for sure! Is the red not PERFECT?

I love images of old buildings, mixed with textures. Images such as this, and this and this...and oh my...THIS... Adore. Honestly, anything old ... and I'm in..... vintage pieces...yes please and thank you!

How bout you?  Do you love the old, and aged, creaky and crackled?  If so, I'd love to see...

This is a very old (circa 1870's) Georgia Colonial. And - like the red of the old barn..it was the red of the bricks (and the rocking chairs) that caught my eye:

I, too, love the character of old things and end up imagining the multitude of stories that go with it. Here's a church ruin a friend told me about, http://smallchurchproject.com/smallchurchproject/2011/04/02/cairns-and-other-holy-places/

that barn reminds me of "home" in pennsylvania. sigh....

I work with farmers and find myself more times than not in old farm country on all but forgotten back roads. Sometimes they keep the best secrets.

Ooh ooh ooh--I love shooting photos of corroded things. Here's a shot of an old VW Beetle that I see from time to time around town.

I grew up in the city in Mass and my husband grew up down south on a farm-quite a difference. I enjoy visiting his parents and exploring their massive yard-all the old barns containing vehicles that will never be restored. I look in the windows for any old treasures that may be left behind. I rub my hand across the door knobs wondering what relative has touched the same place and I'm just fascinated by the large amount of history that just sits there-waiting. I am an explorer-I love history-finding old things-spending a day in an old barn would be heaven.

What is that pull that old things possess? They tug at my heart I tell you. Here are two I've captured recently:

An old house in a small Kansas town, found while rummaging through antique stores and flea markets:

And here's an old barn that always catches my eye:

You are right...that barn would make an awesome photo shoot location.

This picture was taken last year by our neighbour's old fence. They have since replaced it with a 6' cedar fence, which doesn't have quite the character of the old, leaning, rotten one of this picture...

There is an abandoned playground and hotel along the highway in North Carolina. Every time we drive past it I can hear it calling my name. I had avoided telling my husband about wanting to capture it for fear he would think I'm crazier than he knew. But I finally broke down and told him. To my surprise he arranged for us to stay at a hotel near by and sat in the car with the kids so that I could take pictures. I knew I married the right man :)

Me too!

Wonderful, evocative images, Kim.

Here's a recent shot from a trip to Northern WA on the Canadian border - if only these boards could talk.

That's an amazing barn! I love buildings like that & rust & paint peeling too. This is from my love's '39 Chevy pick-up that he has yet to paint and really fix up. Except for the gorgeous chrome hood grill.

I'm hoping to get some road trips in this summer & find some great dilapidated buildings in our area!

I love the mystery given off by old and well worn buildings, furniture, or small treasures. I live not too far from Old San Juan, which has no shortage of old:

wow Kim...some fabulous barn shots. I adore the vintage red of barns in the US and Canada...I will go in search of some here in the UK. They might not be red, but they will probably be old. :) xxo to you my friend...

I love old, run-down buildings! There is just something about them that captures your eye and your heart. I also love vintage pieces too. :)

This is an old door my friend and I found while exploring Kalamazoo. :)
