mother love = true love

My mother's day was... A free pass to sleep in a couple of hours, yummy breakfast cooked by daddy, fresh tulips, a stroll around the Mission district in San Francisco, and a tiny photo session in the yummiest afternoon light. All that, but the best part you can see right here: chubby legs :) Oh yes! And that intense look too.

Sometimes I forget she is just a baby and we have a whole life ahead of us to get to know one another. I love her so much. And when I mean love, I mean that kind of love only mother's know. True Love. I do get it now. The love that sees deeper and that transcends any difficulty or imperfection. There is really nothing like it...

That is why I keep coming back to this one polaroid. Even though there is no smile, the color is uneaven, and there is a chunk missing at the top, it represents a very honest and beautiful slice of motherhood for me. It's not always picture perfect, but endlessly rewarding. Ever precious. It's a day we shared and a day I never want to forget.

So, how was your Sunday? Whether you are a mother or a daughter, please share with us a slice of true love from this year's mother's day or from year's past.

This year's mother's day was about seeing the future in their eyes:

Mother's Day isn't much of a thing in my house, but I did take a moment to reflect on my muse.

I spent an entire day not mothering (well, trying my best not to...). Shopping at my pace, coffee, making jam, and NOT having to take my boys to get haircuts. This is what I came home to:

I dropped my bags & forced them to sit for a picture.

what a sweet picture.
I am a daughter. I have been mothered by quite a few women, not just my mother. It was great to reach out to them.

When I was 14, I helped deliver a filly who has been my constant companion over these years. Trail rides, tribulations of growing up, college, my reading companion, marriage(s), birth of my son, 2 career changes and now a time of quiet for us both.

For 31 years she has been a constant in my life - and for the first time we will be living together. Yesterday, a perfect Mother's Day, working with my son and husband, we thinned trees, installed posts and gates, surveyed and cleared the property so we can bring my sweet horse home.

Love your baby's pic! She's a cutie! My Mother's Day celebration was Saturday evening. All of my men were home for dinner - my DH, my twin sons and my new grandson. My moment was when I was rocking my GS with his binkie - our ritual for him to go to sleep. He smiled at me not for the first time but our first shared moment. My son caught it but I don't have the pic uploaded yet. It melted my heart.

It's hard to be far away from my mother on this special day. I love celebrations and they are just not the same over the phone. Looking at this picture of how beautiful my mother was the last time I saw her - at christmas - really helped me feel not so alone.

So adorable a photo! I have a story - so more of a compilation of photos. It was a nice day nonetheless.

I love what you said about a mother's love. You are so right.

My mother's day was great. At home, no fuss, simple pleasures. Perfect. I was living so in the moment that I did not take a single picture.

I do have an ongoing series of self portraits about my life as a mother. Here:

Very special! I love what you said...that you have her whole life to get to know each other. My mom is my very best friend, I hope it will be the same for you! I cooked my mom brunch. It was so delicious but we were SOO full afterward!

I believe she is somewhere here looking at me with the same love and affection.
