Surprisingly (to me), my happiness picture is a selfie. I had a rough June, just wall-to-wall commitments and at the very end, we took four days off and just relaxed on the beach in Maine. I snapped this one of myself just before getting in the car for the journey home, when I felt recharged and giddy. I reaffirmed that yes, I am enough.

Why does it make me happy? Because it uses 21st C technology to render contemporary actors in Edwardian dress as if they really did live in the 19-teens--all that and the fact that they are actually acting in a play that was written in the 16th century. The continuum of time and art that picture participates in fascinates me. It makes me happy even though the play itself is one of the greatest tragedies ever penned. King Lear, being a play about time and the fear of fading away and sight and blindness and the continuum of generations, seems a perfect fit for this kind of photographic treatment.
