summer nights

Nothing compares to the feeling of a warm summer night spent outside amongst good company, live music and great food. It can be a challenge to capture the ambiance and mood of a setting like this. But placing the camera on a solid surface combined with a slow shutter speed provides the ultimate opportunity to showcase the scene. That way the glow of neon lights and unassuming signs are presented in all their glory.

Have you captured any casual summer ambiance lately? Share your images with us.

A few weeks ago we spent a few nights in Miami Beach. Not really a casual ambiance at night, but there was an amazing neon glow. I finally went through my pictures yesterday.

This is my favorite way to spend casual summer days with the family - who wouldn't love walking behind these two?

Not long ago, I spent the evening catching up with an old friend (we went to kindergarten together) sitting on her back porch with the warm summer breeze. I know I'll appreciate the experience even more in a few months when the cold hits us once again.

The sun had set but was still lighting the sky enough for me to shoot this wide open and capture his practice run.

The colors and reflections are so lovely!
I captured so much at the county fair last weekend - I may be posting these images of summer nights clear into November.

This came from last month's Fourth of July block party. The kids broke into a massive silly string fight just as the sun was starting to set. Of all the photos from that day, this one was my favorite. I love the freedom and spirit of childhood that it captures, proving that even teens are just big kids in bigger bodies!

it was spring, it was cyprus and i only had my iPhone with me so i couldn' t do anything about the shutter speed
but the hipstamatic app did a nice job capturing the nights we walked up the hill and had dinner at Seriani's, and spent the rest of the night sitting on our terrace by the pool

We took a family weekend vacation to New Orleans. I just love that city! And it's a lot more family friendly than you may think.
