For the Love of People

I love to people watch.  A lot.  I can sit back for hours and watch the different people around me, making up stories about this one or that one.  What better place to get pictures of those people than at a Susan G. Komen 5K?  It's the only time that both men and women alike can wear the words boobies or tatas and get away with it. I loved seeing all the different ways people dressed for the occasion.  Anything pretty much goes.  Even the men got into it, wearing anything from tutus to bras!  The mood was upbeat, people were laughing and smiling and they didn't really mind whenever I took their picture.  Truly, it was a magical day with magical people and my camera and I loved every moment of it.

Today, show us your magical 'people' moments.   We'd love to see them.

Mirrored twins? Even the color of their clothes are opposites:

Wanted to share a blogpost that I did recently. I also love watching people. This picture was actually taken during a photography course where there were several children and their parents and 10 people taking photographs. For the most part, all of us were right "up in the faces of the children. It was amazing to me in retrospect, the totally spontaneous expressions we were able to capture, especially seeing later in the day , in photos taken of the group by one of the instructors , how overwhelming we must have looked to the children. Yet they were totally able to just be theirselves! How amazing children can be, and what beautiful innocent spirits.......

Also love the photo on this post where people are able to come together creatively for a common purpose. Need so much more of this type of beauty on the news every day.

I know it sounds weird, but letting my kid play with a chainsaw -- that's a people moment I couldn't help but love lately!

I captured this image of my friend when her son returned home from Afghanistan last year. Her expression as she got her first glimpse of him captures the moment perfectly. I can't wait for another happy homecoming....

I have never really been a "people" photographer, mostly a flower photographer. But, recently, I've decided to try to capture "people" moments. I've been capturing strangers, mostly from the hip as I'm still too shy to ask their permission.

I don't have an image to share today but so glad to see your wonderful shot from the breast cancer walk. Doing the three day walk is on my bucket list of things to do. I lost my mother to breast cancer when I was only seven. I am so thankful for the strides and progress that has been made since then so other little girls don't loose their mothers.

I love watching people, and I'm getting better at taking photos without being so self-conscious about it. It's easier at an event such as a parade where it's acceptable and even expected. And then the money shot of an oopsie! gives more character to the scene:

And then sometimes just watching my son and his friends play gives me great shots and I love to get as many of those as I can!

I don't have a lot of people/stranger photos but I just love seeing other photographers' street photography. I aspire to try street photography some day.

I did grab this photo while at my most favorite Independence Day parade. I didn't quite achieve the effect I was looking for.....but hopefully you can appreciate the spirit of the hustling parade goers on Cape Cod....

I'm getting a little bolder about taking photographs in public spaces...

I have very very few photos of strangers, as I'm perhaps overly sensitive to feeling intrusive (I feel awkward making photos of my friends, sometimes) although I prefer more honest and unposed pictures.

Hmmm. Ironically, I think that I'd be more comfortable if I had a more powerful lens - which would BE more creepy ...

I love people watching! Although I don't really like to take photos of strangers normally, unless the context is appropriate or you can't see their face.

I would love a telephoto lens but I don't think I'd be trusted with one of those! All my ethics would probably fly out the window then ;)

Here are a couple of mine from a while back when I went for a walk:

I am usually uncomfortable taking photos of strangers but I had the best time EVER taking photos at the Coney Island Mermaid Parade a few years ago...The most spectacular people watching place you can imagine and everyone there just wanted their photo taken...I hope to get back some day.

I recently found your blog through Kim Klassen's blog and love it! Count me in as a follower!

I am an avid people watcher, I find you can learn so much about the times from the scenes we see. I have just recently began to try to expand my photography to include more people and street photography. This is one of my favorite street scenes I have taken...although very sad, it speaks volumes about the economy today...

Love the tutus.
I love to people watch but not brave enough (yet!) to snap that "people watching" shot.

I rarely shoot strangers these days as "my" people are always around. Here are two having their own moment.

I tend to take more photos of nature than I do of people. One day last yea,r at a state park of ours in Indiana, the falls were really crowded. It was hot and this is a place where people like to swim and are allowed to. I tried to make it look like there was no-one around, though in my photography:

But then decided to take a photo of the crowd there as well:

My husband's co-workers are also interested in making music and they started getting together to play. They got to the point where they were jamming regularly and they decided to put on a mini-concert for family and friends. Here's the lead singer really getting into it. The whole evening was magic. http://www.flickr.com/photos/anngeedee/5697094973/in/set-72157626544283155

While on a photowalk with some other local togs, I saw this man, uninterrupted by the chaos around him that was Pike's Place Market, and a bunch of photographers giddy with excitement and possibilities. I saw him from the other side of the garbage receptacle and something about his far off look grabbed at my heart.

I wanted to know his story.

This one was complete accident. The boy on the right was looking at me for a photo and then as soon as I took it, the girl came in for the attack!

I caught that image at a race to help raise awareness for prostate cancer. The one man came off the stage after speaking about his story and met up with an old friend and gave him a big bear hug. I'm so glad I was standing there to capture the moment.
