tradition

I wish it would snow at Christmas here in London… this painted snowman in a pub window, is the closest I'll get to seeing one this year…

Snow at Christmas is tradition, right? Not really for so much of world, yet it's part of the tradition just like stockings, Santa, holly, presents etc…

Christmas is steeped in traditions, even when it comes to the photos we take.

Do you have a traditional photo you take each year?… sat by the tree, the table laid out, christmas lights, wrapping gifts, stockings hung… there are so many possibilities.

These photos are the memories that we take onto the next year, that's what makes tradition… I believe in holding onto memories and I love to use photos and videos to make mini movies into Time Capsules… and this festive period gives plenty of opportunity to make some magic…

If you'd like to learn how to make your own Time Capsules, you could win a spot on my Creating Time Capsules course… please leave a comment below and you could turn your christmas fun into a Time Capsule of your own…

the year I was pregnant with our daughter a friend started our tradition by buying me a Christmas decoration (a small baby in a walnut shell). every year we now buy a new decoration.

Some were bought by friends, some a reminder of a place we've visited (this year's from our holiday to NewYork). When she was small they were i keeping with my colour scheme, however as soon as she started to choose her own they be came less so, I'm thinking of the knitted snowman and especially the straw donkey (now with wonky leg)!!

We LOVE getting each and everyone out of the box and chatting and remembering as we put dress the tree butt I will confess some get hid (donkey!!) round the back of the tree when she's gone to bed!

It would be cool to create a time capsule not only at Christmastime, but other special occasions!

My tradition is to go home to the sea, which I miss where I live the rest of the year inland. My photography has faltered a bit of late, but on boxing day last year I took my camera down to the sea which had come right up so there was only a narrow strip of land, and I had a great time photographing the waves. Hopefully I'll make more time for inspiration in 2013. I tend to photograph plants and nature, so my goal is to get braver and do more portraits. Also organizing and making more use of my photos - I've boxes and boxes of prints and files and files on the computer, they need to be used more!

We have fond memories of going to the Christmas tree farm and wandering around until our two boys picked out the perfect tree. When they were old enough, they took turns cutting the tree down. The farm had hay rides and apple cider and made for a very special day.

It is my goal in 2013 to get my old cassett tapes transfered, figure out my editing program and take Xanthe's class to turn it all into special memory capsules. When I saw what Zanthe was going with her photos and video and knew it was the perfect thing for me to do with my old (and new) memories. Thank you Xanthe's for being so open to showing us your process and to your family for being willing to share special moments with us.

We have so many fun traditions this time of year, but one of my favorites is taking our boys to the train station to see Santa.

Christmas eve my girls open one gift. It is always matching Christmas pajamas. Getting harder to do more that they areone wearing still children's sizes and the other just starting onto adult sizes. They love the tradition and I LOVE setting them in their matching pjs the fest of the winter.Makes for a great photo op, too.

Maybe I could send you some of my snow?! Where I live, a white Christmas is pretty much guaranteed.
My favourite image: snow-covered trees.
Thank you for offering the giveaway! The class sounds really intriguing.
Best wishes for the holiday season.

I love what I've seen from the participants in the class and how you've incorporated into your own family photography. It has me wishing for a dslr with video!

I make my kids take a picture with Santa each year. I don't take the picture, it's just the mall photographer. We have 15 years worth of pictures on the mantle this Christmas! It's funto look back at their expressions each year - ranging from frightened to excited to teenage-indifference.
