looking down

There was an air of nervous excitement in the air as the kids headed out to the field to begin their first day of band camp.  Being the high school band photographer, I accompanied them and stood back a bit, watching, waiting to snap photos here and there as I begin to document the first days of the their new season. I watched as the kids haphazardly dropped their belongings on the ground, gathering in small groups here and there.  In one group, the 'seasoned' band members talked excitedly about their upcoming junior and senior years while in another corner stood the quiet freshman, looking so serious with their 'first day' jitters.  As I moved around, I almost tripped over this gathering of items on the ground and had to smile.  In looking down, I realized the story of the day was right there in front of me: bottled water, sunblock, an instrument.  So simple, yet so telling.

Today, share your 'looking down' photos.  Be sure to tag your images #sselevate and play along with us.

Looking down.... Recently I revisited the coast of NC that I fell in love with years ago when we used to take our children (all grown now) camping there. I'm in the process of seeking employment in that area and I'm going to live out my dream of living at the coast! I found this little bit of love while walking on the beach... after I got back to the hotel and was reviewing my photos and looking at the "shell loot" I had, I realized I didn't even pick up these two darling heart shaped shells that caught my eye... that's ok, those little love tokens just might be found again one day....

I looked down and took this picture of my daughter several years ago, with my old point-and-shoot. Every time I see it, I miss the chubby wrists and that little dress ...

Today I walked across a footbridge and looked down into the waters of Plum Creek. Yes, that Plum Creek...in Minnesota...where Laura Ingalls Wilder used to live and play!

So I'm thinking about the prompt for "looking down" ...when I look down and notice how my socks match the bathroom rug that I'm standing on. I happen to have my iPhone so I snapped a shot and noticed that Kuma was in it. Then I waited to see if he would walk away which he usually does anytime the camera comes out. Of course he noticed my interest and the next thing I know, the dog who usually averts his face from the camera sits down and poses very nicely.

It was from a bridge up above that I spotted these children at play:
