the great outdoors

After five well-deserved, care-free days on a family camping trip, it was too much of a challenge to pick a single image that summed it all up. The great outdoors has so too much to offer; especially when time in this kind of picturesque locale comes only once in a while.

The thing about a trip like this is the simplicity of it all. There's nothing required except the ability to take it all in; one deep breath in and one breathtaking view at a time.

With summer still fresh in our minds (and hearts) my guess is you've got some lovely images in your recent archives you can share today. Or perhaps you're communing with nature as we speak. Whatever the case may be, today we are celebrating the great outdoors. Share your shots with us and tag them #sselevate.

play

My son's high school marching band hosted a carwash a couple of weekends back.  They started at 9 a.m. and washed car after car until they stopped at 2 o'clock.  It was a typical hot Southern California weekend and once the last car was washed and dried and sent on it's way, buckets were filled with water and it was every man for himself.  My son may have gotten in a good toss of water onto his band teacher but being the prepared teacher that he is, he was laying in wait with a hose.  Be it a child or an adult, who doesn't love to play with buckets of water and hoses on a hot summer day? Truly, one is never too young or too old to play, and that is always a good thing.

We are ready to elevate the everyday this month! Show us your images of play and add them to the One Word Project pool on Flickr. And be sure to tag your images this month with #sselevate.

when the road calls

Summer is my time. Weeks before the first day of summer and all I can think about are bright-colored cotton sundresses that hang in my closet, happy clumps of daisies that wait to pop up yellow and white in my garden and the cool, turquoise waters of the neighborhood swimming pool. I dream about snow cones, drive-in movies and road trips like other people dream about fancy new cars and luxury vacations. I can't help myself.
.
But I think maybe what I love most about summer are the road trips. Summer is road trip season. June rolls around and the road calls out. At my house, we are only too happy to heed the call, to pack the car up and go. We build time into our trip so we can stop along the way-- wherever, whenever we feel the pull. These summer adventures with my family are my favorite, my happiest times. These are the memories I hold close.
.
Today, share with us your favorite shots from the road. And don't forget to tag your shots #ssmoment all July long, and join Shutter Sisters as we play along with Haagen-Dazs and their 50 Summer Moments project (tag #hdmoment).

John Deere

The "Tractor Pull" competition at the Rivers County Fair was a first for him and I. My first time in Rivers, Canada and at the Fair. His first time climbing aboard his dad's John Deere. It was a grand moment for us both.

What grand moments have you experienced this summer? Do share!

Don't forget to tag your images on Instagram, Twitter and Flickr with our new tag for this month: #ssmoment and #hdmoment for Haagen Dazs 50 Summer Moments Project.
