sisters in wonderland

Today's the day we set aside to share our Alice in Wonderland inspired images. The invitation went out last week in conjunction with the Shoot Portobello photography project and today is the day they'll be shooting the Alice In Wonderland theme.

Since many of us couldn't make it to London (hey, Happy Birthday Xanthe!), we're having our own celebration of the magic and wonder of the classic fairy tale right here. To take a peek at what the participants of Shoot Portobello are capturing, their images will be posted in the Shoot Experience gallery.

Show us what you came up with today! Let's all get Mad (as in Hatter) with it!

girl seeking adventure

Although I haven't seen the new Alice in Wonderland movie yet, I still feel like I have indirectly gotten Wonderland fever! And I know I'm not the only one.

Since I know that this community loves a good photo challenge I was thrilled to discover a fantastic (and fun) ideas for a photo challenge inspired by the fine folks of Shoot Experience. Everything they do over there is photography driven (yay!) and it all seems so cool but this particular project felt perfect for all of us. It's called Shoot Portobello and it's what they call a photo "story event" this time based on Alice in Wonderland. How cool is that??

Since many of us are waaaay too far to take a day trip to London, we're going to play along from here in our own sisterly way. The big eventis happening on March 28th which will give you some time to muse on capturing your own images on this theme. Since we're making up our own rules, there are no rules! Just shoot something, or a series of something, that is inspired by the classic (and trippy) tale of Alice in Wonderland and on March 28th we'll all reveal our shots of our grand adventures! The event itself is geared toward teams working together so if you want to pair up or gather a team to play together (albeit virtually) we encourage you to go for it! The sky is the limit (just ask Alice). Something tells me this is going to fit in perfectly with our OWP theme dream too, don't you think??

And if those of you that are close enough to attend (Xanthe...you out there?) can make it to the event, that would be amazing. How fun to be represented by a Sister! Let us know.

Feel free to pop over the the Shoot Experience facebook page and become a fan if you'd like to give them a sisterly pat on the back for doing such creative things with photography. I just did!

As for today, share with us any kind of adventure shot...anything goes and/or just let us know if you're up for the photo challenge. We're excited to get your feedback. And don't forget to have your Alice in Wonderland shot(s) ready for March 28th. Don't be late!

Our participation in Shoot Portobello is not officially affiliated with the event. We're just kind of tagging along. But the folks over there are happy to have us so we thank them for that.

sharing what matters

Hey Sisters! Have you heard? What you're doing matters! Yes, I am talking to YOU.

If you ask me, I'd say we're riding the wave of pure and positiveaffirmation! It's awesome. And in the name of self-kindness, I hope you can take today and embrace the wonder that you are. Right here, right now, as you are.

And speaking of kindness, want a way to give a little back to people who need it most right now? It's easy, just bid on your favorite image from some of our talented community of Shutter Sisters who have work up for auction at the Mom 2.0 Summit Exhibit Auction. The same images that were hung at the FotoFest Gallery in Houston! All proceeds will benefit Haiti relief efforts so you're not only going to get inspired, you're going to give something in return. It's a windfall of kindness!

Today, turn your lens toward positivity, toward kindness, toward the creativity that makes what we do as Shutter Sisters so darn special. Our collective good energy makes a difference. Share what you shoot with us!

life is a process

Everything around us experiences it's own process. I am endlessly intrigued by the cycle of things. From the bud, to the bloom and beyond, sometimes its a mere matter of days that this cycle takes place. Even in the midst of winter, there are changes in the landscape around us or even things that surround us in the comfort of our own homes.

Are there befores, durings or even afters that coax your lens?

-----

It's no secret I've got this coming spring on my mind, with Picture Spring and all (hence the spring-themed featured photo today). I am thrilled to congratulate a few sisters on their complimentary registration for Picture Spring.

The winners of the random drawing are Bright and Blithe, Andie Edwards and Suffering Summer.

YAY!

Got Milk?

Life is a journey, as they say and we all know by now, it is not about the destination. Most of us believe it, but even still we often get ideas in our head that when we reach a certain status, or accomplish a goal of some kind, we’ll feel as if we’ve finally arrived. We all have a little of that in us, even if we know that there really is no true end to our dreams and ambitions (thankfully).

Of course, we might ‘make it’ to certain milestones, or gain the recognition we have sought after but is there really ever a time we totally surrender, slam on the breaks, stop and say to ourselves I have arrived ? Even if only for a little while?

The other evening my family and I attended an intimate media event for the Great Gallon GiveMilk Campaign. As we approached the lovely grounds of the W in Los Angeles where the event was held, I saw my sister and my nephew as they were getting their milk mustaches in place for a Got Milk Studio portrait. An official Milk Mustache Portrait? Gasp! I had no idea how much I really coveted those ads until that moment. I felt as giddy as a school girl! I realized that in fact, this was a dream coming true. For the rest of the evening, I felt like I had arrived!

Maybe it was just the feeling a part of such a clever, photo centric and visually stunning campaign even though the only place you’ll see this photo is right here on this post (or on my mantle). Or maybe it’s because it’s I have a honest to goodness love-affair with milk (no, I’m not kidding). Whatever the reason, there was something wonderful about it. It was an unexpected highlight for me and for just a few hours I was able to hold onto that feeling. It was like a little bit of magic.

Is there anything in your life that could present itself to make you feel like you have arrived? Or maybe there is there an image you've captured that makes you gasp with giddiness, “I did that and it is marvelous”.  Share your school-girl excitement with us today!
