eyes of a child

You know how children always spot airplanes while you're lost in thought at the steering wheel? Or how they hear dogs barking in the distance, when all you hear is the chatter in your head? It's a welcomed relief to be pulled back into the world. The Moment.

This was taken at a photo shoot when little Vienne (age 4) spotted reindeer on the wall! Until she  pointed it out, I hadn't noticed that the sun was rising to form perfect shadows behind them. And it reminded about when I let my kids play with the camera. They often come up with the most amazing images, and I  think it's for two reasons. One is that they don't see the world through the filter of what it's supposed to look like. Instead, they're naturally open to looking at everything from many different angles. The second reason is that they're not afraid of failing. I think we could all learn a lot from the way kids see things.

What do you think? Any amazing kid-inspired shots to share today?

What an incredible shot! Oh, how I long to see the world through a child's eye again. My little one just recently started taking photos with our little digicam. She needs to work on her flash. Well, she is only 19 months after all.

This shot is one that I took (a while ago) but my daughter was the one who pointed it out to me... quite exuberantly:

This picture is pretty cute. I think it`s just that children have imagination as they do not have to care about every day stuff, and adults "close" their minds in some way, only artists do not think in the normal way, as they reject norms and canons...

Well, phooey. Just yesterday I let my little boy snap several photos of me with my camera, but I (ah-hem) deleted them all. (I wasn't looking my best.) But my son does inspire photos...of him...of the things he sees...and of the places I find myself in because of him:

My kids are always seeing things I just gloss over in my hurry that is life. Like pictures in clouds:

or reflections:

Funny, a posted a poem recently about looking at life through the eyes of a child. My children look at life with such wonder, I have much to learn from them.

This is the shape she imagined when she saw that I put all these stones in a bowl (she took them all off and set them like this).

And here's what I noticed while watering the plants the other day as my daughter was napping, when I thought what would she be seeing right now if she were watering with me:

(BTW: I saw the photos of the session, they are stunning!)

my son enjoys "looking through the viewfinder" it started with my old point and shoot camera and has no progressed to him wanting to use my Nikon D40. here's a set of photos he's taken, through the eyes of a child.

This is great, especially after seeing where the shadows are really coming from!

Although I breath deep when he has the camera.... I LOVE to see how he sees things. All we have at my house is an autofocus Fuji but it works for us. ;-)

I let my sons take pictures, with my camera, all the time. So, I don't usually get any "kid inspired" photos - instead, I get kid-snapped photos and post them in "Kids with Cameras" every wednesday. Here's my son's most recent..

i see everything better and different with 2 toddlers around. you get on their level see the details they see so obviously that we tend to glaze over, beauty in the small, the simple, the silly. i love capturing them i shadow. something whimsical about it to me....

I just know my little nephew is going to love taking pictures. He's already in love with my camera. Ever since he became mobile he charges me when he sees the camera and wants to hold it...and look into it....and eat it. Now that he's walking it makes it even harder to take pictures of him. I have to be VERY fast. I can't wait to see what kind of pictures he'll take once I get brave enough for him to hold the camera. Here's one of him trying to get the camera from me. http://www.flickr.com/photos/umbrellablog/2985470536/in/set-72157608492152737/

I love the picture posted - and the whole series...the reindeer shadows are beautiful! I think it would make a nice Christmas card pic! What fun!
I can't wait til my grandchildren can use my cameras! The viewpoint of children can be so eye-opening..these pics are of me getting down to their level at a local touch-a-truck event...at their level and age the tires were their favorite part of the event!

My son sat in my lap and clicked the shutter (neither of us looked through the view finder) while I held and aimed the camera. I think he was around 18-months when he "helped" me take this shot of his rocking horse.

We had some fun at the Seattle Science Center with the fun house mirrors. All I had with me was my point and shoot, but my daughters reaction to the mirrors got me taking all sorts of silly pictures.

The mirrors start at the 4th picture in the post.

Love that photo! How cool is THAT?!

Last Christmas, I let my little 4 year old daughter have my point and shoot for a while. I came up with some very unique photos when I uploaded . . .

This is such a great photo and the explanation is more than wonderful. I was just thinking how my mom used to tell me in my 20s that I acted like I was either 5 or 45 but no in between. I started thinking how it's been so long since I acted 5 or could even relate to it. This post reminds me to keep looking with the filter off.
