through the looking glass

ALICE

she ate from a plate called EAT ME
and she grew up so tall.
she drank from a cup called DRINK ME
and down she shrank so small.

and so she changed
while other folk
never tried nothin' at all.

Shel Silverstein

Got any photos that demand accompaniment--a poem, song lyrics, a quotation from some long-passed soul?

One of my more recent digital albums was a faithbook, my spiritual testimony in words and photos. Many of the pictures were chosen for how well they conveyed my sense of a particular bible verse or passage meaningful to me. Here is the first page.

Good morning Shutter Sisters

So often i take a photo and when i look at it the feeling from that day comes back to me.

This was a hot, balmy day with a really sleepy feel and the Jellyfish song 'Russian Hill' just kept playing through my head. Lyrics are underneath the photo

Here is a quote that just fitted the picture.

and one from a while ago when life was a bit hectic - i felt a bit like the photo, twisted and unstable - the lyrics are from a Blur song 'Far out'. I thought the photo looked like a planet 'hot in the milky way'.

i hope you like them.

The weather demanded this photo- what a lovely day this is going to be!

Before you met me I was a fairy princess
I caught frogs and called them prince
And made myself a queen
And before you knew me I'd traveled 'round the world
And I slept in castles
And fell in love
Because I was taught to dream

I found mayonnaise bottles and poked holes on top
To capture Tinker Bell
And they were just fireflies to the untrained eye
But I could always tell

Cause I believe in fairy tales
And dreamer's dreams
Like bedsheet sails
And I believe in Peter Pan
And miracles, anything I can to get by
And fireflies

Here's one that automatically brought to mind a song from my childhood:

The photographs that I publish are dependent on the words in the blog and vice versa. I am never sure if it is the words or the photos that come first.

I'm still trying to deconstruct this quote from Lord Byron:

My friend and I have a photography blog where we pair lyrics with photos. Here's a post that fit the song lyric well: http://timewaitsphotos.blogspot.com/2008/02/in-my-mind-i-was-child.html

This is one of my favorite photos coupled w/ my current favorite quote:

Rise like Lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number -
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you -
Ye are many - they are few.

It's the last stanza of The Mask of Anarchy by Percy Bysshe Shelley.

p.s. I love Shel Silverstein!

ok...ever since I posted this picture (http://shutterbugschink.wordpress.com/2008/05/21/lovely-lady-liberty/) for a different Shutter Sisters topic, the following lyrics have been bouncing around in my head:

Lovely lady liberty
With her book of recipes.
And the finest one she's got
Is the great American melting pot,
The great American melting pot.

(Yes, it's from Schoolhouse Rock. Yes, I know most of the words. Yes, I'm proud of that!)
