Some Things Never Get Old

I have for some time now had a love affair with the city of Chicago at night.  I self-identify as a night owl and often prefer the amber glow of street lights or cold fluorescents to the glare of the mid-day sun for my photographic adventures. I find the required long exposures and improvised tripods both challenging and magical. I love how deep blue the sky often looks in contrast to the white clouds. And the star-like flares from any points of light are simply irresistable. I just don't get tired of wandering the streets, camera in hand, long after most sensible people in the city have gone to sleep.

What are some of the things that never get old for you to photograph? Please share your images with us today.

I have visit the same places over and over again to photograph different seasons, different weather, and different times of day. My general rule is that if I think it looks good being photographed once its bound to look good being photographed again in different conditions (maybe better!).

Oh, and my yard. I am forever taking photos all year round of different things in the same exact places when I don't feel like leaving home for a big trek.

I never tire of shooting details of nature's beauty:

And I totally agree on star-like points of light :) They're still a happy surprise for me when I view a night shot on the computer for the first time.

I love night time photography, I love the challenge it presents in creating images. This is an example of my images: http://www.vickieoakleyphotography.com/-/vickieoakleyphotography/gallery.asp?LID=&cat=90095&pID=2&row=15&photoID=6719885&searchTerm=

Photographing texture never goes old. And color. And peeling paint. :)

Sailboats and blue sky mixed in with a bit of forest can do it for me. Give me a city landscape in the distance and it's just a perfect.
Paris and Eiffel Tower... I’ll never tire of it.

The one thing that I never get tired of photographing is cemeteries. One of my favorites was Salem, Mass. Old Burying Point.

And this one is from Bethlehem, PA God's Acre.

I'm loving all these "comfort" photos!!

One of my all time favorite things to shoot is my kitchen window. Doesn't matter the time of day...or whether it's empty or occupied by some creature or flower, it makes me smile :)

And my beautiful, pregnant best friend, whose body changes every time I see her. She worked damn hard for this pregnancy and I love cataloguing every little bit of it -

There is a park near my home that was once the home of socialite Kate Macy Ladd, and later belonged to a king of Morocco. It is now a public park, and I have been drawn to it over and over, to photograph it in all seasons:

Chicago is amazing and I'm in love with all of your pictures of it. Don't stop!!!!
We took a road trip there from Austin this August to go to Lollapalooza, because we had never been, and stayed in this amazing old art gallery and ate the best pizza of our lives. Why do white bunnies hop the sidewalks at night?!??? The city is perfect and so photogenic; the air feels amazing.

Um, well to be honest, something I can't stop photographing is this cat.
His name is Rivington, after the street in New York
and he inspires my practice because he's my most willing and uninhibited subject. :)
