Focus on the Motion

At the front of this barbershop located outside of Kigali in Rwanda, there's a row of stylish, slender African men moving swiftly behind their clients seated in upholstered chairs. A steady beat of music carves the space into segments. But in the back, there's a row of curvy African women moving gently over their clients seated in upholstered chairs. Fluid conversation and laughter emit light. They soften the edges.

Let's get a glimpse of what's in motion today.

Ahhhh, motion! Something I want to get better at capturing! But I'm working on it when the opportunity presents itself. Got this one yesterday:

Totally unintentional, but I got this spookily blowing flag on Halloween night in a cemetery where the first casualties of the American Revolution are buried!

I honestly didn't even see the flag until post-processing.

I always try to capture motion, but still need some work. Here is one from a month or so ago.

I am not very good at capturing motion quite yet. This is my best attempt so far and I really like how it turned out!

What a lovely image..and your verbal description of the scene makes it truly special. Here's a little 'stop-motion' action:

Capturing motion is a challenge for me. Here, though, are a couple of shots I like:

This is one of my favorite potion shots. I really need to try and capture more.

Love that shot. I have never been able to master the everyone is still/sharp but a little blur on something....well, at least not on PURPOSE, with some sort of intent.

This one was a trial and error shot...a combination of panning and slow sync flash. This particular one is probably shot attempt 23 but my 3 yo was willing to run!

That is an exquisite shot - full of so much good energy.

I feel most fed when I capture my incurable wanderlust in a photo. I hope this picture of the hopeful sunrise this past May when I skipped Austin to NYC in a fit of homesickness does a little of that. :)

This morning I was outside taking pictures of our first snow(!) when, above, the leaves started swirling.
