the space we call home

Now that summer is winding down, I find myself more and more at home. Am I the only one feeling an inward shift? Maybe it's because I moved that I'm feeling more of this season change. My home is new to me. Maybe it's because school has begun again that I find myself cozying it up, using the oven that sat so lonely all summer, playing board games, reading books, and making my familiar indentions on our beloved couch. I find myself looking around my house, finding new nooks i love to photograph, and seeking out the cozy corner of other homes as well.

Today, share with us a corner of your home. The space where you play, where you chat or work. It might be a favorite window, table, place to gather, or simply a place to relax. Today, show us the space you feel most at home.

...........

One Word Project update: We will still be honoring your faces for the next few days over in our flickr pool with the inspirational ladies from I Heart Faces and will be announcing a new word for Sept later this week! Stay tuned.

for me, the whole world is like my home, and this is my favourite room, the place I am most comfortable, the place we gather and relax. Even through winter. I guess that sounds poetical, unlikely, but it is true. http://www.flickr.com/photos/shorelinesphotography/4861696153/in/set-72157624475150980/

I find home wherever I am. Many of times - I'm most at home when out walking...seeing and capturing the world thru my camera's lens:

"making my familiar indentions on our beloved couch". I'm always amazed by the way you string words together. You are an artist in every way.

My favourite place is my patio, where I've spent most of the summer. But now the clouds are creeping in ...

When I have free time, I love to sit and stare out of the huge window in the living room: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stephaniecourt/4926985967/

Here's the view from there. It's especially lovely on a sunny Saturday when all the sailboats are out on the Bay - http://bigmariolife.blogspot.com/2010/03/since-crossing-over-to-digital.html

i find great comfort in my kitchen. there's something about sitting at the kitchen table, arms circled around a cup of tea or coffee and a book, that is somehow even more relaxing to me than stretching out on the living room sofa with my knitting (which comes a very close second). and this time of year is all about the knitting and the kitchen and the wishing for more time to savour them.
the other day my kitchen and made these red currants into jelly. and muffins. mmmm

What a gorgeous color!

I'm loving my kitchen. We just painted it and we're in the process of sloooooowly transforming it into a space we love.

One of my favorite corners is the little nook we set up for the kids art table. There's always something fun going on there and the light is just right most of the time with the window shutters open. I came upstairs one day to find this sculpture - built by my husband- during our daughter's "climbing" phase. He was tired of rescuing her from self-inflicted injury and just removed the temptation. It was too funny not to document: http://www.flickr.com/photos/40070449@N08/4288974859/

My kitchen window. Your question was interesting, I went back to look at all my photos and noticed so many photos of this particular spot. As you can imagine, I spent a lot of time dreaming out that window.

The kitchen table has always played an important role in my life. I love to linger there after a meal, chatting over a glass of wine, and my husband and I play dominos here, late into the night. It's where I pour over cookbooks, write my grocery list, and stack racks and racks of cookies to cool.

My old peeled paint chest is my favorite place to display flowers. Currently, sunflowers are lighting up the space, but I loved these daisies a friend gave me last year.

After many, many moves (growing up in a transient Royal Canadian Mounted Police household raised by two Air Force brats, then having my former husband join the Canadian Forces) I make home wherever I am. I feel most at home in Nova Scotia, within walking distance of water, and make our home feel homey with how we decorate, our sentimental attachments to objects, and especially with family photos. They are everywhere in our home, and we have many albums documenting our memories throughout.
