i am...

I love how self portraits can be so emotive.

Whatever you are feeling on any given day can be expressed through the click of your shutter.

They often seem to fit this formula "I am ______ ."

I am... brave, sad, fragile, strong, unsure, sexy, powerful, scared, fierce, tired, trying, angry, loved, exhausted, beautiful, imperfect, worthy, creative , empowered.... the list is endless. One day we readily fill in the blank with something positive, and the very next day it may be quite the opposite. With each click we can express a number of emotions. Trust me, I do not find self portraits easy, but what I do find them to be is 100% cathartic, especially on those not so shiny happy days...  So, if you have not turned the camera on yourself, do try.  Trust that the beauty you find when pointing your camera outward is sure to be found when you turn it on yourself.

In celebration of this month's One Word, YOU, fill in your own blank today.  What are you feeling right now, in this moment?  Express your word and yourself in a photo and share it with us here today.

Me?  I am a work in progress ....

While this wasn't taken today, it is how I am feeling lately. I am a bit shattered:

I really really love this: "Trust that the beauty you find when pointing your camera outward is sure to be found when you turn it on yourself." and I believe it to be true.

I am a work in progress as well http://www.flickr.com/photos/libertadleal/sets/72157623271063003/

I recently did a project similar to this. I was listening to Pandora and the song "Dog Days are Over" by Florence and the Machine came on. I listened to the lyrics and it inspired me to make a list. The list began as "I am..." then transformed to"I like.." and "I want.."
It was very therapeutic. It allowed for some self-reflection, and helped me lay out what my future goal are, and how to reach those goals.

Love this post.

Thanks for this prompt today, Kristin. I haven't done a self portrait in a while, and it's always revealing when I do. Today I went out into the sunshine and hoped to catch myself having a warm moment in the autumn sun. However, what I captured was me, looking a little troubled. Although we may be able to fool ourselves inside, sometimes our face tells the truth. As my hubby said to me the other day, "I can't believe I've been with you 14 years, and you are still a mystery to me." Well, the problem is, I think I am still a mystery to myself!

Take pride in your accomplishments, as they are stepping stones to your dreams. Understand that you may make mistakes, but don't let them discourage you. Value your capabilities and talents for they are what make you truly unique.
