Graphic Nature

My two worlds are colliding as I stare at this photo of a bug-chewed leaf. The graphic designer in me is enamored with the pattern of organic white-ringed shapes and the veins that connect them. Meanwhile my photographer's eye is studying the depth of field, contrast and saturated colors. In fact, photography and graphic design are intertwined in many ways. The same elements that I studied as a college design student can be applied to photography as well. Balance, contrast and movement are important for any form of visual art and the lines between artistic mediums can often be blurred.

This is my love in photography. Finding patterns. As a former math and science teacher, I am drawn to Fibonacci Sequences and appreciating form and function in nature. Ok, tomorrow I am heading to a pumpkin patch and now I have a new goal!!

i have been taking photographs of a piece of discarded paper that has been lying in the grass alongside the water
it is a kind of waxy paper, like butchers use to put their meat in, and it has been lying there in a crumpled heap, slowly decaying, changing color, getting thinner and dirtier, but always amazing me with its wonderful shape and folds and shadows and layers of color
i have finally gathered all the shots i've taken together and put them in a set on flickr today, thanks to your post....!!!
