a celebration of light and color

"There are two ways of spreading light; to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it."  ~Edith Wharton

Tis the season for lights and color. And when you combine to two? Magic happens!

The golden glow of candle light, radiant ornaments, moonlight, subtle sparkles, twinkle lights.

Whether you choose fantastic focus or a brilliant bokeh, today, illuminate us with all the light and color that you've captured this holiday.

I feel like I am going a little crazy with all the light and colours areound me. I keep wanting to shoot everything.

Here's a little shot I took the other day. Not my best shot, technically, but I loved the moment and am glad I captured it.

Such a clever and creative image - capturing the lights reflected in a mirror the way you did!
And - here's one of mine. Some rather unusually colored lights:

Experimenting with bokeh creation. Since my holiday decorating theme is "snowflakes", that is what accompanies my light show:

Some of these images are just snapshots to capture the moment, but I did discover the beauty of little faces aglow with Christmas lights...

Now it's a matter of timing to catch the explosions at their peak before the smoke begins to form. Take some practice shots, and you'll soon get the hang of it. Then you can take a seat next to the camera, pressing the shutter button once in awhile as you enjoy the show! You can also capture multiple bursts on the same frame by setting the camera to Bulb and using a black card to cover the lens between bursts. When a burst happens that you want to capture, remove the black card from the lens for a few seconds, and then replace the black card until another burst happens. This takes some practice, but can result in great shots! It's also advisable to use a cable release, instead of pressing the shutter button with your finger.
