at the pub

Gathering at the pub is such a British tradition... and we find ourselves there even more so in the build up to the festive season... a cosy pub, with comfy sofas, your favourite tipple and snacks, make it all so welcoming. I like to savor this time as friends and family connect to celebrate the holidays, and share in togetherness as the year comes to an end.

I’d love to see how you’re gathering with loved ones at the moment and savoring these moments over food, drinks and treats. Please share them here today... Cheers!

I've only just arrived in London (I'm an Aussie!) and the pub culture here is such a big thing. I've only been once or twice in the last few weeks but it really is a much bigger thing here than back home. In Sydney the boys go occasionally and that's about it. It seems to be like a big, family-like get together thing here :)

I can't wait for our traditional Xmas morning breakfast: eggs benedict. We've not been able to do this every year, and sometimes we do it New Years Eve instead, but this year I'm bringing it back with a vengeance! :D

So many of my memories and family traditions have food as the center. We are a family that loves to eat good food and to laugh and play while we prepare it and enjoy it together.

Here in the Southwest U.S. we have coffee shops instead of pubs. I'll be at mine tomorrow morning to watch the Christmas parade on Main Street. Will post some pics after that, for now just enjoying everyone else's. :)

These days we tend to gather in people's homes instead of pubs. Kids play for awhile then are put to bed in strange bedrooms while the adults continue the festivities. This was taken in my home last year at our Christmastime gathering. This year's version takes place next weekend and I can't wait. So, no pub but savouring moments over drinks, food and treats? Check, check and check!

I'm sort of in mourning as my parents just left after three weeks staying with me. We spent our time searching out sunshine and food....

Gathering with friends is such a treat! The last big gathering with friends was over hot pot, an Asian tradition. Cooking meats and veggies over a steaming pot of soup, drinking beer, and lots of reminiscing!

Oh Xanthe, I long to return and visit one day. I so loved the pubs when I was there some years ago. Maybe one day I'll be lucky to bring my girls and spend a holiday there. Thanks so much for sharing and bringing back wonderful memories.

What put the "whole population of Paris in commotion," as Jehan de Troyes expresses it, on the sixth of January, was the double solemnity, united from time immemorial, of the Epiphany and the Feast of Fools.http://www.digbbc.com
