I spy

I don't want him to smile. Not like that. Not like HA HA CAMERA LOOK AT MY FUNNY FACE or OH ALRIGHT MOMMY BUT YOU OWE ME ANOTHER TOONIE. I want to catch him absorbed in something other than the act of having his picture taken, and so I skulk. My shutter tiptoes, hunting immersion. I want nothing else other than the moment of processing: taste. The love child of pink and red. Maraschino!

If you've ever had a dog, you know that you can't make ANY kind of movement at all without the dog getting up, wagging his tail, seemingly thinking, "Hey, whaddaya doin? Any chance we can play ball? Maybe go for a walk? Hey, how 'bout a treat? Where ya goin? What's that? Oh, that looks fun..." It's like having a second shadow! So the only way I could get this shot of my little monster eating was to skulk in the hallway, settings all ready to go, and pop into the doorway now and again before she could realize Mom was playing some REALLY FUN GAME with that funny black box in the other room. :)

I can't imagine anything describing it better for a person who loves to photograph birds. Skulking, sneaking and creeping are part of my day to day existence when I go 'hunting' for my next subject.

My husband is away for the winter working in Toronto while I man the home front. He has a third floor apartment and I go in on the weekends to see him. The squirrels race around the roof and I caught this guy skulking and peeking at me.

Love your photo. I MUCH prefer the photos of children especially where they are NOT looking at the camera, especially with those silly "here's me posing" looks. This photo is what photos should be.
