celebrating mother earth

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world;
indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
- Margaret Mead

Happy Earth Day!

Every day with our cameras, we turn our eyes to our surroundings. We feel gratitude for our environment, put barefeet on grass and show our respect to mother nature. Let this day be no different. Let your focus fall on Mother Earth today with a quiet reverence that many of us around the globe will be doing the same.

Shutter Sisters has partnered up with B Kind 2 Earth Day, and something very powerful is happening because of it. We, as creative sisters with cameras as our tools, have superpowers! The power to shed light. For what we focus on, the world sees. And when the world sees, the world changes.

"Because of you, thousands of people are already seeing Earth Day in a new light -- as a day to celebrate and recognize our planet in a kind act  - big or small. It's a simple but revolutionary idea and through your enthusiasm and creative talents, you all are putting the earth mother back into Earth Day. You constantly inspire and awe us."

Let's be especially mindful of our focus today. How do you celebrate Earth Day? Please share your comments, stories, insights, and images with us today.

Celebrating earth day by standing up and taking notice of earth's gifts. This year - it's a very late-blooming spring:

Trying to teach Little Guy to appreciate the earth and feel a part of it. That bond will motivate him better than anything I can say. http://journeyleaf.typepad.com/journeyleaf/2011/04/gnome-hideout.html

Isn't it great that a lot of people grow their own vegetables in the garden? I hope I will too sometime soon!

Yesterday, we played in a stream. It's raining today, so we got our Nature-On yesterday.

Today I'm looking back on what can happen when you nourish your garden over many months...beauty grows from everywhere, without thought, without judgement, with a whole lot of heart, http://www.flickr.com/photos/soupatraveler/5642688251/

I celebrate each day I'm lucky enough to enjoy the gorgeous waters, breezes, and smells of Maryland's Eastern Shore:

love that quote.
our earth seems to still be weary after a long winter so no blooms just yet, so we are growing magic beans inside instead...

For us, Earth Day is even more special because my son was born on this day. We call it his B'Earth'day. We always do something extra special to celebrate both occasions.

Everyday.
By teaching my children to see the beauty in small things: http://flic.kr/p/9Ae8AK
And by living in a manner that, whether you try to or not, makes you feel one with the Earth and understand her cycles so intimately: http://flic.kr/p/9zdzo3 and http://flic.kr/p/9yWxKf

Isn't Mother Earth the best muse? When I'm feeling creatively-challenged, she never fails to provide inspiration!

Every day I point my camera toward nature's gifts and every click of the shutter is an expression of gratitude. This time of year it is all around me!

Today is such an important and beautiful day. I spent the afternoon with my friend's twin boys who have just turned two - seeing nature through children's curious, excited eyes is a reminder of how blessed we are to be surrounded by so much beauty.
Meredith, thank you so much for featuring my picture in this wonderful post. I love the Shutter Sisters community and feel very lucky to be part of it.

i too try to instill the notion that everyday is earth day -- we've been planting up a storm for the last month and a half.

but today we also had a planting play date in honor of earth day!

I love Earth Day. The Pacific Northwest is celebrating sunshine after days and days of rain in some places (in my place) and I'm preparing to go outside with my dogs to bounce around and play! I'm going to track down a magnolia tree to photograph and head up to the tulip festival. It's going to be a fantastic weekend!

Every day is earth day! But it's great to have a dedicated day to remind everyone, it's so important to respect and protect this wonderful planet we're all on.

Mine was taken back in summer - I thought the beauty of these intensely pink blossoms against the bright blue summer sky with power lines above them showed an interesting contrast. But then that's suburbia for you!

I love the different color fingernails and dirty little kid hands-great pic.

my girls have been making worm farms and leaving them on my kitchen table--don't like having worms in the house but do love their little hands digging in the earth.
