solstice

“Summer Solstice is one of the great turning points of the year, when the sun is at its peak and the days abound with the promise of life’s fullness. It is a serenely powerful time in which the beauty of the natural world can infuse our spirit, bring us alive to the present, and perhaps awaken a deeper sense of relatedness to the community of life, to the Earth, and to the cosmos.” - Paul Winter

Show us how you plan to spend your time today. This: sun standing still day. This: longest night of the year. Sunrise, sunflare, sunset, or starshine... lay it on me! Leave your images in the comments below, but most of all... enjoy this most beautiful solstice!

I live in an area where the sun sets around 6:30pm. I recently got to visit family in the midwest and had forgotten how wonderfully long summer evenings are there. I captured this while watching the sunset through a 100 year old open window.

It looks like today is going to be a yucky weather day for us in my area. But, if it were a pretty sunny day, I would spend it like this day back in May:

It doesn't get much better than a relaxing picnic with your loved ones...

wow, the flares and reflections in your shot are amazing!!!
I love to be in the full light of the sun, to enjoy its warmth on my skin, even when it feels a bit too much, to rejoice at the incredible gift of its light. I feel I need these feelings more strongly this year.
here's a shot which celebrates the light of the sun:

I could go on but this is getting ridiculous. I did say I was addicted to flare though! ;)

Some days you just marvel at the beauty of nature....

This is one of my favorite sunsets, taken on a California trip earlier this year:http://petinahopephotography.wordpress.com/2011/06/21/summer-solstice/

Taken in my hometown in Pagsanghan, Samar, Philippines, where this picture reminds me that the simple beauty of a sunset is one of life's greatest joys.
