reflections on self

We took a walk around a junkyard full of VW love. Rich with history, my heart felt full and happy. I was looking at the past, I was gazing at the future. On days like these, it's easy to find beauty in the rust and decay. I think about the stories these cars could share: the miles traveled, the backseat arguments, the flat tires. These volkswagons held lives and carried them from place to place, life to life.

I'm drawn to shiny surfaces... and this day was no different. Glass reflects my own smile, it reveals the love I see before me and the peace I feel within me. Reflections are multi-layered in their storytelling. I'm drawn to the abstractness of environment and how I can place myself into it.

Today I challenge you to reflect on your self. Find a shiny surface, a looking mirror, a window pane, a storefront display... and insert yourself into it. Let your reflection tell us your story.

. . . . . . .

Remember that with your comment comes the chance to win a very special September gift; a $100 gift certificate courtesy of Paper Coterie in honor of the Everyday Storytellers and our One Word Project this month; story.

... is my life - sharps container, light leaks, dust spots and all. I thought about cleaning up the drag across the emulsion, but then I thought, "Why? Is my life like that?"

Does this picture tell a story or is it just a dirty negative? I welcome feedback.

What a great shiny surface you found and a wonderfully creative selfie
this was a great prompt too,--I captured my reflection through my dirty oven door:

I have been participating - albeit infrequently - on a self challenge posed by another blogger. It's not as uncomfortable as I thought I might be.

Love finding reflections--sometimes in strange places! Bumpers make good "fun house mirrors" on the fly!

I love the curves on your reflection.

I've been participating in a self portrait challenge with some friends and of course, reflections are a great way to accomplish this:

Ah the old VDubs. We drove to California and back to Ottawa in one when I was 14. It seemed like punishment to my teenage self - to have to spend that much time cooped up with my parents during the summer - but I remember it fondly looking back.

Wanted to share a link on my blog containing a picture that I have done recently capturing me in a self reflection portrait. Helped me see that I often only see myself from the eyes of others, and gave me some interesting ideas to "chew on". Am really enjoying this story telling. LOVE this idea. I only recently got a mirror in my home, and I still startle myself when I walk by it. Today I made a point of walking by it because for some reason everyone has decided that my children all suddenly look like me :P I had to compare haha

Okay, I took the challenge. Why not? I was 5 minutes late for an appointment. Not a minute more! I even called to say I would be five minutes late. When I arrived, the glass door was locked up tight. I knocked on the glass. No answer.
Well, what else are you going to do???

After I got my pic, I knocked a little more loudly...

It was fun. A weird shot, but an interesting challenge.
