stepping in to something new

Sometimes trying something new is scary. Not in a nightmarish sense... but in a fluttering of butterflies way. You know what I mean? When you know you are facing something that you are supposed to be doing, butterflies are often the side product. This was how I felt as I began my adventure that would take me to the coast of Maine on New Year's Day.

Years ago, I made a wish. I made a promise. And it turns out that I arrived in New England much sooner than I expected. Sometimes life follows a crooked little path to get you exactly where you are supposed to be.

I can wax poetic here, but I'll save that for my blog. What I want to say is: try something new. Try something outside of your comfort zone. What are you dreaming of for 2012?

If you'd love to relive our experience of jumping into the icy Atlantic waters off the coast of Maine, you can view Kristin's slideshow and my youtube video to get you into the spirit of doing something crazy in the pursuit of big dreams. Today share with us your dreams, or allow yourself the space and freedom to set your intentions and say those wishes outloud.

And thank you thank you, to all of you who cheered us on from the sidelines. Your support through donations, comments, and best wishes really fed my spirit.

I want to be able to share the beauty I see through pictures. I want to spend more time outside with my family. I want to get rid of the clutter. I want my garden to thrive again.

We started New Year's Day with a birdwatching trip and a hike through what my son calls "Lorax Forest". We taught him about a little bit of fun in the forest.

My dream for this year is to get my work exhibited somewhere. I just have to convince some poor coffee shop or gallery owner first! It's exciting and scary :)

Happy New Year xx

Congrats on your swim! That must have been so shockingly cold and exhilarating. The photos are beautiful.

During vacation we went to see the movie We Bought a Zoo, it was cute and a tear jerker but what stuck with me was something Matt Damon's character said, something I want to remember and put into play in my own life.

“You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”

I want to be brave in 2012.

I'm trying something new. It's not exactly giving me butterflies, and I wonder if I can finish it because so many people say they don't or it's harder than they thought. http://www.flickr.com/photos/koreenphotography/sets/72157628665483875/

But what gives me butterflies is the thought that I *might* get my first real pro camera in only a few short months. It feels right.

Last year I started a business helping people make digital photo books. This year, I'm creating a web presence and I find the whole process scary in the butterfly way.

My site is in development but in the meantime I created a simple blog to get started. This is the first time I'm feeling brave enough to tell someone. Here is to doing something a little scary in pursuit of your dreams!
