music

There is something about live music, something about it that simply fills me. And if I am able to capture that feeling with an image, I am over the moon. The lights, the waves of sound, the crowd all joined at the hip... how do you capture such as sensory experience?

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of being awash in stage light with a chorus of voice and horn. At one point towards the end of the set, there was a stage full of women and men. Their dancing bodies stretched from stage end to end. Dancing, smiling, singing with wild abandon.

Seeing such joy, seeing a tribe of men and women experiencing such love, was exactly what I needed to see. This {seeing someone create music love joy} helps me be a better person. I’m not sure how else to explain it. But I come away from each musical experience I have, feeling like this whole human race is stitched together with a thread of melody.

Today, share with us your love of music. Strings, horns, guitars. Dancing and laughter. What does music make you feel? How do you capture music (something you can't see) with the lens of a camera? Share your images in the comments below, add to our OWP flickr pool or Instagram with #sselevate to share the joy.

Just last week we took our kids to their very first concert, seeing the delight in their eyes, watching them sing and dance was just as good as hearing the music.

We are also big Mumford and Sons fans, so wishing we could have fit it in.

Music, for me is all about pianos. I love to photograph them. Here are mostly I-Phone pics. It is amazing what that little phone can do.

Here is a picture of a Sengalese drummer during a concert of Kora music at the Queen Elizabeth Hall last September.

I wondered why after I posted my photo of my piano on Flickr, all of a sudden photos of other pianos and then other music-related photos began to appear today. I came here to see if there was a post about music or pianos and sure enough! You won't believe that I had written this post a few days ago but decided just this morning to finally click the button to put it on my blog. The topic is right on!

I took the idea of music to a different place in my head. It's just the way my brain works sometimes.

oh oh, maybe my first response was way too long. Okay, here's my piano post -- I was obviously on the same wave length when I wrote this a few days ago but just posted it this morning:

I miss live music terribly - used to be such a part of my life and doesn't quite fit this phase very well. But I can feel the sizzle and excitement of the night and the crowd in your shot - it's wonderful.

this is from the last time I got to see live music in ages - my friend's band:

Our favorite local band plays for free at a coffee shop every month. You can just tell that these guys play for the pure love of their craft. They are an absolute joy to watch!

What a fun photo!

I haven't been to hear live music in years, but I have some little guys who keep my toes tapping with their tambourine playing ...
