love is in the details

When was the last time you got really close to something and found something completely unexpected?

Have you ever uploaded an image and something hits you that you had not noticed before?

Some delicious detail that made you smile.

Have you ever noticed that the inside of a sunflower is filled with amazing rows of the tiniest most perfect hearts?  Really really.

I remember taking these shots.  I felt a little like a bumble bee with my nose stuck right in there.  I wanted to capture those tiny hearts to remind me that there is so much to be found in the details... even love.

Let's all celebrate this month's One Word today and share some amazing detail you have found.

details

Spring has finally arrived and I find myself once more belly down in the soft grasses searching for tiny details through the lens of my camera.  Point of view, is something I love to play around with.  Getting down low is probably my favorite.  Some call it a worm's eye view.  If you could see me I am often with muddy wet knees or grass sticking in my hair from getting shots just like this one.  I think getting a little dirty is all part of the fun.  I feel like a kid exploring the world at my feet.

Today lets have some fun, grab your camera and go play in the grass.  Get low.  Get muddy.  Have fun!

Then share your worm's eye view with us here.   What beautiful little details can you find today?

Emotion in Motion

I love capturing motion shots.  To me, nothing shows emotion better than an act or movement caught in the moment.  The kids at my son's school put on huge dance performance every year and my 'job' is to put together a slideshow for their friends and family of the photos I've taken to show just prior to the kids taking stage.  Seeing the kids in motion, the pure joy on their faces, shows everyone just how much fun they had getting ready for the big night.

Capturing motion shots of all kinds can show an array of emotions from the element of surpise to pure delight to simple childhood fun.  How about you? Show us your motion shots.  Let us see the emotion you've captured.

the details

As a new mom, the days and nights tend to blend together into a constant flow of diapers, feedings and laundry. I am one month into the job and am realizing that taking care of a newborn is a much bigger task than one can ever prepare for, but the bright spots are also much brighter than I could have hoped for. I am learning how important it is to capture the details of my baby boy during these days where my memory seems a little foggy. I don't want to forget the tiny toes, soft skin and perfect lips of my little one because he already seems to be growing so fast.

I'm enjoying every tiny part and piece of my little guy these days. What kind of details are you focused on in your life?

Two (or more) Is Better Than One

There were six of us, all of us friends since high school, living like pampered royalty for three glorious days in a fabulous home on the coast, no husbands, kids or troubles allowed.  It was a photographer's dream being there and my camera, along with the requisite glass of wine or cocktail, was always just a reach away. I took so many photos but just one photo alone couldn't begin to tell the story of our time together, so I chose the 4 photos that summed up the weekend the most and put it together in this collage/dyptych.  Just one look and my girlfriends and I are taken right back to a weekend that I know we will cherish and remember forever.

How about you? Have you ever made a collage or dyptych? Please share with us today your photo stories.  We'd love to see them.
