Wish Lists (let's talk photo equipment)

23/365

-me with my Rebel XT before I got my wish and upgraded to a divine Canon 5D (pre Mark II).

We so rarely talk photo equipment here—there are so many other more delightful things to talk about—but let’s face it; we ALL use this stuff every single day. We thought it might be fun to dream a little and share some of the goods we’d eventually like to add to our photo arsenals.

Andrea, Maile and I all have our sights set on the Canon 5D Mark II. Purrr.

If you’re looking to purchase your first digital SLR we think the new Canon Rebel T1i kit is a great way to go (comes with the body and a lens).

On the other hand, Sarah and Karen think the Nikon D700 would be the bee’s knees. And Nikon has the entry level SLR kits too which are a great way to start.

Sarah’s also coveting a few new lenses; the Nikkor 135mm 2.5 and the

Nikkor 70-200 2.8.

Kate longs for a wide angle like this one and at the same time would adore getting up close and personal with a macro like the 50mm 2.5 Compact Macro. Let me recommend this sweet sweet little baby from personal experience. It’s the lens that rarely leaves my camera. I would never forsake it...except maybe for this Canon 100mm Macro. I borrowed one the other day and was in heaven. And yes, it’s on my wish list.

Paige is looking to get flashy with this Canon Speedlite Flash (great flash, I use one and highly recommend it for Canon users).

Karen would like to try her hand at Aperture

Stephanie’s getting ready for the Picture Hope trip with Jen and they are interested in this Lowepro Dryzone Waterproof Camera Backpack for the road!

Did I mention that Kate was looking to spruce things up with a new funky camera strap? Remember we mused on straps in a recent post? Well, Jessie of Designs my Jessie has offered up two of her awesome camera straps for a couple of lucky readers today! Check out her smart and sassy designs at her Etsy shop. The built in lens pocket is so clever!

So, let’s have it...what do you have your photo sights set on. Maybe if we put our collective wishes together we can make things happen. Afterall, it is our passion. Why not wish big?

For a look into our camera bags to see what we are using right now to capture the images featured at Shutter Sisters, check out the Equipment List page.

And if you want to win the camera strap, you must comment here before Sat at midnight. Good luck!

I'd LOVE to get Photoshop and a new strap!

I am working on saving for a lensbaby and the creative kits that go with that. After that I might consider a nice prime macro or maybe I need to get a good flash to use. All I have right now is my D80 and Tamron 18-200 Zoom. Great set, but more would be nice :)

I think that the next thing on my wish list is the Nikon SB 600 external flash. I would love to get my hands on it!

My current equipment list is here:

http://gabriellekaiphotography.com/blog/in-my-bag/
So yeah I'd love the 5D mkII but, I would settle for a 5D. Also next on my list to purchase (whenever I can save up the money) is the Canon 24-105 L
...
oh and a Lensbaby!

One of those cool straps would be awesome!

I just upgraded to the 40D from a rebel XT which I could give to my 17 yr old daughter :) and would love to eventually get a Canon 85mm 1.8 lens also. Cameras are a bit like buying a boat - the money you can put into it never ends !

I'd love to get a better camera bag, and a couple more lenses (a macro and a telephoto). And of all the lenses I've looked at I really want the AF Micro-NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8D http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/ProductDetail.page?pid=1987
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMaisy
I am in desperate want of a heavy duty zoom lens. From what I understand that isn't any small amount of dough though so it will be awhile.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBecky
I bought a Nikon D90 not too long ago, and I'm hankering to try Through the Viewfinder experiments. So I guess my wish right now is for some low-key supplies and a few spare hours to make it happen!

And a gorgeous, distinctive camera strap might also be a welcome addition. :)

Nikon vs Canon. Have the D50 (feels like we got it about 18 years ago now!), but use the D200 more. Hubby definitely has his eye on the 700. But perhaps it's time for a bigger change?? Canon...perhaps... :)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKeri
i have the canon 2.5 50mm macro and truly adore it.....it takes both great macro and great portraits.

i'd love to get my lil' hands on a lensbaby...i also dream of the canon 5d markII but can be patient on that one. building up a collection of lenses sure takes moula and i'm glad i'm taking it slow and not just going into debt buying fancy lenses...it has me really bonding and understanding the potential of each lens before i get another one! i also really really like renting lenses to test out which ones i'd like to have!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commentervivienne
I have quite the wishlist! I really only have 2 basic lenses, so I hope to add some fun ones to it...the fisheye, the 100mm macro and the 85mm 1.8. Someday.... I can't complain though, I LOVE my dslr. I love that the camera strap has a pocket, I never have a place for my lens cap.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLetia
I have had my Canon G9 for about a year and a half now and have had a lot of fun learning with it...I have only recently started feeling that I might be ready to upgrade...probably to the Canon Rebel XTi...I only fear that I am going to find it too heavy and bulky to carry around...love my tiny little camera...

Still...would love a cute camera strap..
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGail
Hmm. I am going to have to go with the 5D MarkII as well... I am certain that all my problems will be solved with this gem ;)

I would love a new camera and am looking at the Nikon D300. Not sure if I want to go full frame with the D700. I also want a longer lens and would like the all around workhorse of a 18-200mm VR. It was a great lens on my trip to Yosemite/Sonoma last year. My D50 is struggling a bit lately and I would love to upgrade after 3 years with it. Plus it really, really needs a cleaning...but how can I part with it??? ;)

Oh, and if I happen to win a camera strap, please give it to someone else. I have a ton of fabric in my basement and have that on my to do list. I'd rather it go to someone else that doesn't sew.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterStacy
Well, since I've picked up two of the items that were at the top of my wish list last month (Lensbaby composer and the 50mm 1.4) my heart is now set on the 35mm 1.4L. Sigh... just imagining it on my camera makes me feel good inside :-) Though if I was able to pick up the 5D then the 50mm would probably make me perfectly happy!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCrisse
My wish list never seems to get any smaller even after a purchase from said list is made something seems to take its place but for now my list reads as such.

Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 (because lets be honest this lens is above and beyond AWESOME)
Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G micro (because my 60mm micro is fine for taking pictures of flowers but that's about it)
Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G wide angle (because everyone should have a wide angle lens and I don't so I need to fix that)
the white balance lens caps from Photojojo (I would like one for every lens please)

Now if I could just win the lottery or have a wonderful donation made to The Libbie's Photography Equipment fund this list could happen.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlibbie
Oh my word...I want a new camera bag, I would love a macro lense, a remote switch, a 50mm lense. I didn't have to time to look up specifics. We can't afford any of these right now so I don't want to drool all over the place with exacts.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterStacy
I also think a Nikon D700 would be the bees knees, but until I have that kind of dough I've got my sights set on the D300. Those camera straps are the BEST- love the lens cap pocket. Boy, would that simplify my life.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjenna
A macro lens for my Canon xTi is definitely at the top of my wishlist.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHeather Plett
Well, seeing as how there's a Canon 50D on a UPS truck heading my way, my wish list is pretty well taken care of for a while. Of course, my birthday IS next month so I may need to come up with something by then!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJenny Motley
I will have a few extra dollars in July, but I would rather invest in a few classes than more equipment. I am still a beginner and need some more training! The strap covers are gorgeous!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLynn
Does an outfit for shooting weddings that is flattering, comfortable, stylish and just dressy enough count as gear?

I'm pretty happy with most of my gear at this point, but those straps are awesome...
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBecky
Oh man, here's where the photography monster in me comes out. I want 3 lenses and a new body right now... preferably the pro level body. I put it all together on Amazon and it cost as much as a new car! If only photography gear was cheaper....
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAngie
holy catfish! As soon as there is a giveaway, everyone posts.
I definitely have a wish list for a lens. I'm still torn about which one but hope to get to the city (I live 6 hours from civilization) so I can try out each lens (rent them I suspect) first. These are the two lenses that are in contention:

Nikor 50mm f/1.8 or Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens

I adore those great camera straps. Thanks for linking to her Etsy shop -- I'll go check her out.

Thank you,
DIane

I am coveting the Canon 16-35 f/2.8 L. I've never owned an L series. That 24 f/1.4 is tempting for those extra stops, though...

And yes, I too am coveting the 5D Mark II.

And Photoshop. I've been an Aperture girl so far, but I'd like to get into being able to do layers.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDr. S
I long for the Canon 135L. My hubby just bought me a new tripod for my birthday so the lens is on the back burner now.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle Davies
Beautiful strap covers!
Oh, my wishlist:
D700, although I know I would be happy with a D300.
I would like to have a wide angle lens, a macro lens and a fisheye!
My current set up can be found here: http://shirleybehindthelens.blogspot.com/

I am desperately wanting the Canon 50mm 1.4! It will be my first lens purchase besides the kit lens that came with my Rebel XSi. I can't wait! I would also love a macro lens. I haven't researched those much yet, so I don't know wich one. Oh, and I would love to have a tilt-shift lens!

Hopefully by the end of summer I'll have my 50mm! Positive thinking!!

Just recently upgraded from my Rebel XT to the Canon 50D. I'm really happy with the camera. The 5D still sits on the wish list for now. Other than that my wish list is like one made by a kid with their nose pressed against the window of a toy store:

Pocket Wizardx2
A second 580EXII
Canon 85mm F1.8
Need a new gear bag.. .or rather a shooting bag. My Tamrac holds everything but I hate lugging everything.

My husband also got me a Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC Macro lens when he purchased the 50D body. Love the little lens but truly wish it had a constant aperture of 2.8... but hey, I'm not complaining.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBett
I'm saving up for a macro lens. I already have the 50 mm 1.4 so I'm hoping for the 100 mm macro, but it's twice as much. Does anyone have any advice about making a choice?
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKaren
That's the problem with a hobby like photography: you always want more and there's always more to have. I have a pretty basic set of gear, but I wish I had the time and money to get more stuff and spruce up my collection.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterEmily
What don't i have my sites set on? There is sooo much - i would like and some things i think i really need. It sure would be nice to get Mac pro with HD monitor to do all my editing on.. and of course, the canon 5d mark 2 ... i can't think about it... i just need to wait and save -- soon :)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJulie
FASTER glass! Nikon or Sigma 50mm prime either 1.4 or 1.8 please!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlifeineden
A 50mm lens for my Nikon, that's all I wish for at this time
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPhillipa
Well hubby has promised a Canon 5D Mark ll for christmas if I'm good =)~
But the things I need most or Want is the speedlight to use for bounced light; and a wide angle lens for wedding and portrait photography which I am Very interested in learning about.l
For my flower work I'm dying for the Canon Macro 100mm too =)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJody
Six months ago I got the Canon EOS xsi and last night after a photography class in manual settings, I bought the polarizing filter and lens hood. I'd appreciate suggestions for a new lens in the future--I have the basic one that came with it. I shoot mostly fast-moving kids, close up florals and landscapes. Thanks for any feedback!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJane
I'm dreaming of my first DSLR (my first SLR, actually)! Until I get that, dreaming of lenses seems futile...

(I do have an awesome camera for which I could use the strap covers, tho!)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAlexis
There are quite a few things on the wishlist! I just got my new camera strap and ordered a shootsac, but as far as equipment goes - I'm a fiend for the lensbaby and a fish-eye. I know they're probably not the most practical, but sure look fun!! And if we're getting really wishy, I'll also take the Canon 5D Mark II, please. :)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJaana
sigh

i`m happy with my canon xsi at the moment (i will say the camera doesn`t make the photographer - until i need to upgrade ; )

i love my 50 F1.8 (i use it everyday even though i still hate how far away from my baby i have to be...) & i think the 1.4 would be even better...
dreaming about:
a macro lens
& nice wide angle
& wouldn`t a lensbaby be FUN
& now that i`ve seen the riley g straps - GOTTA have one...

I would love the Nikon D3X. Yum...
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteraphrodite
I've just been obsessing over camera accesseries. I call it "surfing the camera porn". People look at me funny when I call it that, but my photographer friends completely understand. Right now, I'd love a Canon 50mm f1.4 prime lens, a set of Kenko extension tubes, a Lensbaby Composer with macro kit, and a Canon EF-S 60mm macro lens. I haven't even started yet with the telephoto. There's so much out there that I'd love to be able to afford...But right now I'm just thrilled that I finally got my SLR that I was lusting after.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermonica
My husband wants to buy us the 70-300mm canon lens, but I kinda have my heart set on a macro next-- either the 100mm or the 50mm. I also really, really need to just buy tripod already! (thinking of going with the Joby gorillapod).

One and a half years later, I'm still pretty happy with my Canon 30D body... though live view and HD video would be mighty nice. =P

a 50-300 with a F2.8 for shooting concerts and night time woudl be great

Looks like many people are dreaming big today. To start my wish list is a Canon EOS Rebel T1i Digital SLR Camera with a lens or two. Since I really want this camera, I have been looking around my house, my shed and the garage for things that have just been sitting around collecting dust and selling them online to pay for my new "toy". I know I am close and can almost feel the grip of the camera in my hand and can imagine the countless hours I will spend taking some wonderful pictures.

Wishing you a scent-sational day!

I would definitely love love love to own a Nikon D700...a full frame camera...so many things I want but I need someone to "show me the money." :)

I got a Nikon D50 4 years ago, and am ready to upgrade. Not sure my price point yet, but I have dreams!!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSharon
I just got my first DSLR a Canon XTi with an 18-55mm kit lens. I would love to get some different lenses. I've got my eyes on a 50mm 1.4 right now.

I would also looove a fabulous camera strap to go with the new camera!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMaggie
I currently use two point-n-shoots: primary is Canon PowerShot SX100 IS, secondary is Sony Cyber-shot. Love them both but would like a grown-up camera - Nikon D-90. Folks are amazed at the shots I get with the Canon - I'm not sure I can imagine what I could do with a D-90! but I'd love to find out.
